tons of ammo

Postby phorvick on Tue Oct 06, 2009 9:58 am

I am not posting to start or encourage a Gander Mtn. praise or bash thread...but... I had a class at GM/Fargo last Saturday. (Which, on an unrelated pisser...I was stood up by 5 people).

While there I looked at a number of new 870's, 12ga and 20ga, all $319. I think Fleet Farm had them for $269 on sale. Then I strolled over to the ammo section. Tons. All calibers that I was interested in.

Plenty of 9mm, .38sp, .357, .40, .45, and tons and tons of .380. 9mm Blazer/brass was 14.95/50; most others in the same cost range...about 30cents a round; 250 round boxes for $74.95; .380 was 19.95/box.

High? Perhaps. Available...for sure.

Then I had a class yesterday where the people had stopped over at L&M Fleet Supply in Detroit Lakes....Blazer Brass 9mm was $11.95/box/50.
Where did I leave the Tardis?

It has been my experience that the two are. In Woodbury, when Dick's and MalWart didn't have ammo, the DuckHill guys did... At 1.5 to 2 times the price. They WOULD price match but you had to KNOW the other places' price and only on similar size / brand. 100 rnd UMC <> 2* 50rnd UMC for example.

I don't know if they went to a match if they have it policy or not, YMMV.

A bit unrelated, but it supports the topic.

I was in the new Bass Pro Shop in Des Moines, Iowa this past weekend. They weren't missing a single common caliber through the rifle and pistol spectrum. In fact, they had 3-4 carious choices in each caliber as well. It was great. Prices were similar to Fleet Farm up here.

Point being that ammo is becoming available across the board, in different areas of the country. Things are looking up.

That's my impression also. However, I was in the Oak Park Heights World of Wally Sunday night and found absolutely no pistol ammo.

This is what I have found also. I was having better luck a month or two ago in my neck of the woods.

I didn't know smart cars made Universal Clays as exhaust! Sweet. If my overgrown butt would fit in one, I'd want one for that very reason.

Remington is apparently starting to ship to larger retailers picked up 500 rounds Rem UMC and two dry boxes at Cabelas today, ordered on line in mid May for $134.95. They advised in was in Rogers like 10 days ago and a week later Bass Pro notified they had shipped two 9mm 250 packs at $54.95 each which s/b here next week. Hardly great prices but they are OK, given the market. That should cover me for the indoor IDPA season without invading my cache of 9mm.

Wal-Mart in Hastings has had probably 30 boxes (50 rnd) of Federal 40 s&w in stock for months for $13.97 but they never have any other caliber. I'm thinking someone should go buy it all and maybe they'll ship the store some other stuff

Mal*Wart in Brookings SD had 9mm and 380 last weekend for the first time in months, it was Federal, but not too spendy. Borchs in Marshall has had ammo in all calibers for quite some time, and my local Fun Shop has never been out although he can't compete with the big boys on price.

Strangely, out of all the calibers, 223 seems to have been the easiest to find for the past year. I quite often found WM out of everything but that.

That's a good price for .40 S&W. Next time I'm in Hastings, I may have to swing by there.
