If someone is good at searching archives, and has access to the old site (tccarry), there's a downloadable form that you can hand to any healthcare professional who asks gun-related questions. I made hard copies for myself.

In this situation and in your situation, Silence would probably be as bad, if not worse than answering questions as far assumptions on behalf of the doctors. They see a lot in their practice, and (I'm assuming) assume and base their care on the worst case scenario in a lot of cases. The only way they will be satisfied is by interviewing the SO in your case, or the kids in others. It sucks, and puts false suspicion in the direction of lots of folks that don't deserve it, but it is what it is. I stand by my previous statement about it, but will play the devil's advocate for just a moment....... If this behavior puts some people who abuses their spouse, or beats their children behind bars, it would be worth it........ :hide:

oh yeah, trust me when i say all these thoughts started going through my mind once Doc started acting like that. But, in my situation, go ahead and come after me Doc. I wouldn't mind retiring before age 30. You can't answer trick questions in a way that is to your advantage. They'll write what they write anyway.

If I recall, the last time this thread came up, the best response was to ask the Health Care giver how many malpractice lawsuits had been filed against them...

I am not a Doctor, have not played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express. I do think there are pertinent reasons for a health professional to inquire about gun ownership. They might have noticed symptoms related to lead poisoning or anything else we may not be aware of. Answering yes to a gun ownership question, does not mean you have to tell them about your whole arsenal.

Well then the Doctor can feel free to lead the question with a polite, "I see you are showing some possible evidence of lead poisoning. Would you happen to shoot guns on a regular basis?" I'd be more than happy to answer 'yes' to that question, as it would be pertinent to possibly solving my problem...

That isn't why they are asking.
It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.

I'm always tempted to respond by asking.. what are four basic firearms safety rules. When they fail to respond correctly, ask them "So, in what way are you qualified to brief me on firearms safety?". The article I posted has some decent statistics if you want to use it as an opportunity for some further "Education" of the medical staff.

AMA's 4 rules of gun safety:
1) Lock it up
2) Get rid of it
3) Don't keep *any* ammunition
4) Store it at the police station
Decrypt the points of departure and return your head slowly and you do not cancel your hair.

somebody suggested once when discussing this topic that we should respond by asking the nurse/Dr/whoever - "How many battery operated sex toys do you have at home?" if they get defensive and say "That's none of your business!", we reply "Exactly!"

I haven't needed to try this approach since they've never asked, but with my luck they would just answer "seven." and then I'd have to react differently! :)

I lean more towards asking if they are in a monogamist relationship and what their sexual habits are. If they think it is none of my business, well I think it is. If they are going to make physical contact with me during an exam, I think I have the right to now if their sexual habits may expose me to a virus or a contagious disease.

My question is more valid than their gun question..................... :D

Doctor: So SAM, do you have any guns in your household ?

SAM: So doc, would you like me to yank your nuts out of your nose ?

THE END, quite simple actually. :|

I can't remember what exactly it was for, but that question came up in a emotional health survey. In high school maybe? Like i said, I can't remember where, but i know it was somewhere useless.
