Ditto on no DL and/or SSC, no sale without buyer paying the FFL for paper transfer that show the gun was indeed sold and to whom with identification. Up to the buyer if he wants to spend the extra.

Not yet a Minnesota resident, but if it's legal, why all the drama? In PA, we have to use FFL for handgun transfer. Long guns are not regulated. If selling, I usually ask to the the DL and show mine to prove state residency. I ask, " Are you prohibited from owning or purchasing a firearm?" If the answer is "no", I get paid, they get gun, we move on. Basically same with every gun I've bought. Follow the law, but don't let the anti's cow you into a sense of false/misplaced guilt/paranoia.

Once you have the ATF call you to ask if you still own a certain gun, which turned up somewhere
it wasn't supposed to, you'll be glad that you're able to prove who you sold it to.

actually I dont care if I get to keep the DL number, as long as I have a copy of the DL< even with the dl number covered. I can at least say with good faith, that joe schmoe bought the gun from me, he ID'd himself with a permit to purchase and a MN DL< a copy of the dl is here.

if they (the Law) come looking, they can back track an issued DL by address not just number. I can calmly say he was worried about ID theft, I read it, copied it with the numbers covered, redacted, etc,

Exactly. You've got yourself covered that way.
It's a little tough to prove you sold it when you just have 'John Brown from St. Paul bought it'.

Hasn't happened yet. I'll follow the law, but won't let imaginary problems drive my choices. I like the "John Brown from St. Paul" bit. If it's the truth, I have nothing to prove, to anybody or agency.

Not imaginary at all. It's happened to me more than once, that's why I recommend getting some good proof.
I'm sure glad I had the proof that I had.
