Appraisals

Postby pfclee11b on Mon Dec 21, 2009 6:31 pm

Ok well when I get home from Iraq I will be looking to unload some firearms because I am re-evaluating my collection. As much as I hate to sell or trade I just dont see the use for the following firearms. So I am looking to the MN community to help me price the following. Also my project is either a 1911 (quality) with front and rear slide serrations ambi thumb safety and rail. So here are the ones I will be getting rid of.

1. Polytech M1A. Has very few rounds through it comes with a green synthetic stock as well as a walnut stock.

2. H&R M1 Garand. Also has very few rds through it just cant afford to feed it.

3. Universal M1 Carbine. This has only 100rds through it. S/n 1044xx

4. RIA 1911, now I am not sure if i want to sell this or add the ambi safety and just call it good and not get the kimber or other 1911. So I guess this is another question for y'all should I put the money into upgrading the RIA 1911 with the Ambi safety and better sights or should I just get rid of it and get a better quality one?

Ok well now I will be waiting on your opinions on what these should be sold at. Or if there is a gun store that would offer me a fair trade deal.

Are you looking for bids or just looking to have someone give some idea of value. I won't offer prices at this time but if I can do it I would be very interested in the H&R and the RIA.

I'll poke around Gunbroker.com a bit for you. I've found their recently sold items pages to be the best indication of what stuff it worth, on the max side of things. And don't want to forget Cabela's. They will give you 70% of blue book value, which is pretty good for cash out the door!

Remember too that the value listed may not be the value someone offers you. Example: I purchased a WWII Luger with all the markings. It was valued at $2,800, I received $1,800 for it from another collector. I make a very good amount of money and was able to refresh my collection with a couple of new guns from the proceeds - so I was quite happy.

Any gun is worth ... what someone will give you for it.

So... Call (see our web site below) or e-mail me when you get something put together ( I don't do this PM thing everyone else talks about). I might be able to help you with some friends of mine who are mil. collectors. I personally love all firearms... but M1 Carbines is a weakness of mine.

Regards and Merry Christmas.

Question on this one, has it been sent in to get proper heat treating done on it?

Now on a side note should I try to sell these locally or would it be better to just bring them in to lets say bills and do trades there... " I will give you this this and this for this this and this?"

Treat it as you would selling a car. Would you think the dealer is going to give you what it is worth? They are in the market to resell.

It comes down to convenience. If you aren't in a hurry and don't mind a little more paperwork, I'd suggest you consign them through a gun store. You'll certainly get much more than selling them to the store outright.
