Sure, sure. If I see you show up to a Steel Shoot with your revolvers, I'm just going to pack up and watch for the day :D

Just bring some heavy loads for the Man Vs. Man. Cowboy loads might be frustrating on the poppers you have to knock over ;)

The way things are going, it wouldn't hurt me to shoot a hog and put him in the freezer either. Can't cast bullets, but I can bring some 240 gr jsp's that ought to work.

Now if we could just convince Benny to do a Lever gun stage at the Steel Shoots, then we'd be talking!

Yeah you may have to have your own plates. Geez, .444 is just overkill...

My nice, practical .44 mag is nothing but pleasant on shoulders and targets alike. (where is the innocent smile smiley face?)

p.s. just kidding, the word "overkill" is not in my normal vocabulary.

There is a chance, that when I step into my VoR shoes, I may have access to the term. Otherwise, there is no such thing as it relates to firearms that I may or may not own (yet).

Maybe lever action steel with pistol caliber only, My cowboy revolvers take down steel just fine as long as I hit them ;)

sounds fun to me. maybe guys could stick around after the man vs. man if they hadn't had their lead slinging fix for the day yet. Benny could charge us yahoo's another 5-10 bucks for all I care.

mandatory reloads

Well that would add to my times I average about 5sec per round on rifle reloads.

most people would have time to casually drink a cup of coffee while I try and reload mine. I drop at least one of the 10 rounds on the ground every time I do it.

we could time the lever gun stage with a sun dial instead of a stopwatch.

Back to the Hog topic...

A buddy of mine works for a restaurant that serves game, and is real jazzed about hunting a hog/boar/feral pig. My brother and I would also like to do this, as it is a type of hunting we've never done.

What I'm wondering is where in the area one would go for something like this? I hear that Wisconsin is the place to go, around Crawford county. All that is needed is a small game permit. What I don't know is if there is state land around in the area, or if there is a section of private where the tenants are open to hog hunters...

Also, is there a place in Minnesota to hog hunt? Does anyone know the license/area specifics? (the DNR is pretty light on info for hogs).

From pages 23 & 24 of the regs....

Unprotected Mammals
Residents and nonresidents are not required to have a license to hunt unprotected species including coyote...

Weasels, coyotes, gophers, porcupines, striped skunks, and all other mammals for which there are no closed seasons or other protection are unprotected animals.

Given that there is nothing in the regs regarding hogs/boars/feral pigs, I would be inclined to say that they're fair game. HOWEVER, I didn't write the regs, and I'm not paid to interpret them, so my opinion is worth what you paid for it.

Another issue - Hogs/boars/feral pigs are pretty scarce in Minnesota.

EDIT:

From a March 22, 2009 story in the Strib.....

...the pigs, though roaming wild, are considered domestic animals and not wildlife.

"There aren't clear laws and policies to deal with this kind of thing," said Ed Boggess, deputy director of the DNR's Fish and Wildlife Division. The DNR is considering drafting legislation that would more clearly allow it to deal with feral pigs.

I've never heard of them in any significant numbers in WI either. Now, TX, that's a different story.

I keep hearing noise about feral pigs in WI and how the DNR there is doing all they can to combat them. All those maps have WI and associated counties listed as places with problems. I just wonder if it's worth the trouble of going over there.

Plus, even if I find a place, how do you even hunt these things? Do you push land? Tree stand? Wait at night? Wait for migration in the morning?

Shoot from the back of your pickup at full throttle?
