We have open carry. We just have to have a permit to do it.

The lack of permit is where it's not going to fly here (until a big shift in the lefties happens).

I agree with Pete about the cans issue. I don't see why they shouldn't be legal, and encouraged. After all, these same people against them want to mandate helmets and seat belts and air bags and 5mph bumpers - but won't allow a device that will protect your hearing, and the hearing of others in proximity.

That was a very silly question I asked. Sorry.

Here's what I should have asked: Is there a strong movement in Minnesota to carry without a permit?

I haven't heard of one - though I'm not one of the resident 'activists' either - but my guess would be because very few, if any, believe there is a realistic chance that it could happen here.

I'm all for it. Prior to moving here, I lived in a 'shall-issue' state that had no requirements other than filling out an application. (Background checks were still done, of course, and the same folks that wouldn't qualify here in MN wouldn't have qualified there either...) It was when I lived there that I first became really interested in the concept of carrying a handgun on a regular basis, so I was paying attention to carry permit stats & news stories. I don't recall a single instance of a permit holder doing anything stupid &/or illegal that having completed some type of state-mandated class or course of fire would have prevented...

Why do you say:
