S&W 64 $199

Postby eph78 on Fri Feb 12, 2010 10:46 pm

If you buy 5 or more, looks like a good group buy if we can also get a deal on the FFL xfer. SGN says it is $199ea if 5 or more ordered.

*IT IS A 64 not 67*

Dang. If it was still SA/DA I'd definitely be in for one.

I'd be in for one.

Does anyone know what it would take to convert back to SA/DA from DAO? Are the parts I'd need to do so controlled by S&W or available?

Thanks,
Mark

Although I don't know if it's completely accurate, I found this on the net with respect to converting back to SA/DA:

"All it would take to return it to DA/SA is to replace the hammer. When a S&W is DAO, the SA sear is cut or ground off the hammer. Numrich has used K frame hammers and Brownells offers new ones. If you get one, 9 times out of 10, they will drop in and work fine. Also, you need to make sure you get a forged hammer, not a MIM (newer metal injection molding process), it would look weird and I don't know if it would work together with a forged trigger."

I'm going to do some searching online for a hammer to see what the cost may be.

It was late when I looked at the cover of the magazine and it is a 64 not 67.

More fyi: upon further research, it appears that either the hammer or the trigger, or both, could have been ground down to create the DAO. Until you get the gun and inspect it, you won't likely know what parts you may need to order to convert back to SA/DA if your heart is set on that. (Each part is roughly $50, assuming they can be found online. I can't identify the exact parts online because it appears it may depend on which "-X" it is.) Sounds also like folks that have picked these up in the past like the DAO pull, so conversion back is not needed to have a great gun.

As for a local FFL to assist, I've used Lincoln Pawn in Spring Lake Park for a transfer before. Have had other good experiences with them as well. I believe they charge $25 for up to two guns to be transferred to one person. Not sure whether he'd cut us an overall deal if we had 5 or 6 to transfer to individuals. Anybody else have any suggestions on who we might use for this?

I wonder if there might be a local FFL on the board that would give you/us a bulk rate on transfers.......... :hmm:

I can't find anywhere on J&G's site a list of the FFLs they have on file. There's info about having an FFL fax a copy of the license to J&G for their files, and there is info about Gunbroker's list of FFLs, but nothing that lets the buyer find out who is already approved by J&G to ship to. I don't understand why they wouldn't offer such a simple piece of information so buyers don't have to start from scratch each time before making an online purchase. :x
