Abrasion resistant. It's used for cutting edges for heavy equipment and farm implements as well as bed surfaces for dump trucks. Does a nice job of holding up, but it will still not perform like armor plate.

I have shot steel armor plate in the army. I have also gone to ranges that claim to have Armor plate targets and had jacket returns from ranges that put up simple steel and the pock marks send ricochets back to the firing line.

My safety and those around me are worth knowing more than someones word. I just want to leave the range with the same number of holes that I went with.

AR500 steel is through hardened. Please take a look at the links posted below. And while it is not "Armor plate" it is commonly used for targets and back stops.

If you had a bad batch or AR500 from another vendor I am sorry. I assure all of you that this is AR500 plate and will stand up to the rounds listed above. You are all welcome to stop over and see my personal target if you would like. It is sitting just shy of 1000 rounds including 223, 22-250, 243, 9mm, 44mag and 45acp.

Ricoshets may and likely will happen when shooting steel targets. Eye protection is an absolute must. I think all of you that participate in the MNGT steel shoots will agree that it is fun and safe.

AR 500 steel plates are premium abrasion-resistant heat treated plates exhibiting through-hardening, improved forming and welding capabilities.

I am not trying to poop on your parade and AR500 is commonly used for srmoring as stated and targets are made from it - but there is a huge difference in Armor Plate and AR500 steel.

It all comes down to chemistry and heat treat. in my business we shoot every heat lot for ballistics and we cannot get consistent results from AR500 when it counts. Making targets out of AR500 is fine - trusting your life to it is another matter alltogether.

When you hit any steel - you are going to get splatter and return. The lifespan is what it is with targets. If you are going to shoot 308 or above and want to shoot steel - I would recommend Armox 500 or MARS 500. (Cruseau Morel).

There are a lot of steels out there that claim to be armor plate - and they are not. If you want armor plate you have to buy a certified armor steel that has been shot by heat lot and comes with a coupon from H.P. White, Chesapeake, US Test Labs, or the like.

We certify EACH of our own Heats in OUR ballistics lab.

Good service, thanks! I received my targets yesterday. Was wishing that I would have driven down to the mail box rather than walking.

Off to get a hanger made.

I just got back from using my newly acquired Steel targets.

200 yards with 308 win. No damage! these things worked awesome. I cant tell you how much fun it is to shoot at 200 yards and hear the TING! and watch it swing!
Awesome plates! I might be back for more.

I seem to be having some troubles getting PM's out of the out box. I will have a pretty good stack of the targets at the show this weekend. The best way to track me down is my big "IDPA/IPSC steel target stands" sign.

It really is a lot easier than people think.

first thing you need to do is learn to read wind.....

I'll split it from that and see if I can't find a nice tutorial for a new thread.....
