Belts? Good Belts? What and Where?

Hey guys need some belt help. I have found that my regular leather belt isn't sufficient enough to carry OWB. As i practice my draw it seems there is to much slack in the holster belt loop and makes it difficult to get a good draw. So i ask y noob question.

What kind of belt?
Where to purchase said belt?
Typical width for holsters?

I would contact Vlad or Srigs on the board. I believe both of them make belts... And they could even make the width to match the holster they'll make for you.

TT is owned by a part owner of Occidental Leather, so basically, it's Occidental's "Gun Division." I own one of their IWB's and the craftsmanship is what I expected from the best.

The kydex lined nylon for daily casual and a nice leather one for those more formal occasions, the things are built like tanks and the nylon one went through a summer of gunsports last year and continual OWB carry with narry an issue. I carry on a Kydex reinforced belt from Looper Leather, total cost $35 shipped two years ago. Before that I had a Galco COP belt that worked for about a year until it stretched out too far to be used.

+2 I've got two of these, I wear each on every other day so they can relax hanging from the closet rod. They seem to be more comfy when they've had a break every other day.

I wear my 5.11 belt every day. Very satisfied with it. Thin but stiff as a gun belt needs to be to support carry. Although I usually pocket carry, it works fine for me in IDPA, IPSC and when I Inside the Waiste Band carry a 1911.

Previous belts were Wilson. Very good belt. Twice as thick. Twice as expensive.

I would go with 5.11 again and probably will because it is showing some signs of wear.

Cabela's sells a double thickness belt for under 30, HOWEVER< you really need to go try them on, as the card that says what size they are seems attached by blind or handicapped. FJ and I went out there and one 34 almost fit him and a 42 was too short, and he's not that big. Go try them, otherwise they are great belts for the money.


IF you spend a lot of time during the day sitting or riding in a car, and have any kind of a belly, the reduced or tapered ends (like the bottom belt in the upper picture of three, will really cut down on the digging in and discomfort that can happen. I have two Milt Sparks belts that I love, both are cut downs and they have worn like iron. Pricey, but worth every penny in the long run.

Also, getting a holster that has the slots cut to your belt size makes a huge difference,

I have one of these I bought in black basket weave about 3 years ago. I wear it almost daily and it's still in good shape. With that said nothing beats a well made leather belt.

Another vote here. 5.11 makes a nice wide leather belt, that is reinforced to be more stiff than a normal leather belt. Two things make a nice holster belt. Width and stiffness. Price-wise its hard to find the same function for a lower price that I've seen anyway.

Well it is a question that has several answers mostly it depends on the kind of clothing you wear? Jeans or suits?

As far as a typical width I would measure your holster to see what you already have.
But for the most part you will see from 1 ¼, 1 ½, & 1 ¾ width.

The typical width for jeans is 1 1/2"
Some of the less expensive holsters use 1 3/4" slots to fit all belts, Unfortunately a larger slot to belt fit makes for a sloppy fit.
In general
Slacks 1- 1 1/4" belt loops
Jeans and most khakis 1 1/2" belt loops.

so its a matter of matching pants belt loop size + belt that matches pant loop size + holster that has slots which match belt width = good support

I'll add The Beltman. Their bull-hide belts are sturdy and look nice too. They do offer sewn in velcro strips, but they tend to make the belt so thick that it doesn't slide easily through the loops on some things like leather holsters.
