I have given up. It is most assuredly NOT solder, had the tip of the iron on it for a long time, and it barely made a dent. I would have sworn that it is a bit of lead shot, but it ain't coming out. The vent is so small, I can't fit any dremel of any kind in there. I really would risk damaging it if I tried anything else, so back it goes. It is beyond maddening that something so tiny can give me so much frustration.

Just try the propane torch on a piece of wire.

Its silver solder, the melting point is higher, but its the standard for mating shotgun barrels. If you want, I can take a look at it.

Torch on wire, paperclip, few other things, did not work. The opening for the vent is so small, you can't fit much more than a paperclip in there. I appreciate the offer to help, but it is getting shipped back tomorrow.

Not true. Most of their long guns have prices listed. Handguns, however, do not.
