Gander Mountain Price Match (Rude)

Postby vertstang on Tue Apr 27, 2010 8:03 pm

So... I've been checking out prices for a Ruger LCP and found that Cabela's has them for 299.99. But the nearest one is in Rogers, MN and I live in Stillwater. I live about 10 minutes from the Gander Mountain in Woodbury and they price match.

After work today I stopped in and told them that I was interested in getting the LCP that they have in stock (they sell it for 349.99) and that I would like to know if they will match Cabela's price. John the guy behind the counter said that Cabela's had to have it in stock. So after a quick phone call he confirmed that I could get it for the 299.99.

Wow did his attitude change! He said "you don't get Gander Mountains warranty then" and "Better put duct tape on the clip to make sure it doesn't fall out" and "Don't come back here if you have problems with it". Very short and acted like I was taking money out of his own pocket!

NOT a great salesman and I wanted to make sure you all knew that even though I got the better price, they should still be friendly and wanting my future sales (ammo, holster, clips, etc) I can now see why they are loosing money each quarter...

DON'T SHOP THE WOODBURY GANDER MOUNTAIN

I just quit shopping at Gander a little over a year ago. Poor prices and poor customer service turned me away.

Never again, unless its an emergency will I shop at Gander mountain, and I will never purchase a firearm there.

Did you speak to the manager? Its important to let the higer ups know these things even if its only peace of mind for you.
If you're reading this, there are better than even odds you are a d-bag.

I am going to call Corporate (St. Paul) tomorrow and talk to the district manager... I work for a rather large retailer and from experience, going to the evening manager does no good.

The Maple Grove one made it seem like to much effort to pricematch so I just bought what I wanted at Bud's.

I had to explain what a Remington model 700 was to the guy behind the gun counter at the Maple grove Gander.

Yep Bad Customer service, I was gonna buy a glock 19. Guy was a jerk. I told him because of his attitude I was going elsewhere. Went too Scheels St Cloud. Great Customer Serv.

I live about 1.5 miles from the Woodbury GM - I get great service from some folks there and not so good from others.

I didn't realize that they price match - I may try that ;)

There's a couple good guys up at the Blaine store, but one is also a former Bills employee.

I've yet to see a price low enough to inspire me to buy a new gun there, and most of their used stuff is obscene as well. I stop by when I'm in the neighborhood and want to window shop.

...so if you have GM price match an item, they no longer warranty it? That's pretty lame. I guess you still have the manufacturer's warranty but still, a little service after the sale is appreciated. Besides, if small mom & pop gun shops can sell at lower prices than a big chain store with a lot more buying power, you know something is wrong. I can't believe he was mad because you wanted them to sell you a firearm at a fair price instead of their usual rip-off price. I've seen used 2nd Gen Glock 17s in the case for $499 for pete's sake... you can get a brand new one for that!

I used to work for the GM in EP and more than half my Co-workers swear they don't even shop there because the mark everythin up so high, and then they took away the special employee night that happened twice a year for hunting and I quit after that, but I was at the one in mankato and there was three customers besides myself. And none of us even got a simple hello to acknowledge us, then I had a few questions and Zach there acted like I was bothering him too much so I just went across the street to scheels and bought a couple rifles,

The people I have talked to behind the counter at the Maple Grove Gander Mountain have usually acted like uppity, trendy coffee shop employees. As if working behind a counter was somehow superior to whatever their customers do for a living.

I wander in whenever the little lady wants to go to Old Navy next door, but I've found that even looking at clothes is more interesting, so I haven't been in there in a while.

I have never had decent service in a GM so I don't shop there. I have had crappy service at Cabelas too. I will still shop there from time to time but only when I know what I want and I go there, grab and get out. In fact, I have had crappy service at every firearms store with the exception of a couple that I now go to regularly. It seems that customer service is not an important thing in the industry.

Yeah but. " "you don't get Gander Mountains warranty then" and "Better put duct tape on the clip to make sure it doesn't fall out" and "Don't come back here if you have problems with it"."

GM was charging some guy the postage on a warranty repair for a taurus they sold, so threatening not to handle any post sale service isn't really saying much IMO having seen how they handle it if you did pay full price.
