First 1911 - revisited...

I have a fullsize milspec SA 1911 that I love dearly -- never a malfunction.

A short time ago, I would have said jump all over it, however, I have seen two new Para's suffer serious problems very recently, (both very new models) which would suggest that they have some current manufacturing issues. I would lean heavily back onto a Springer.

Play your cards right, you can end up with a nice Springer for that range.

The guy who got me back into guns has an old Springfield Mil-Spec 1911 that I've shot on a few occasions. I was a Glock fan (and still am to some extent), but I just love the feel of an all-metal framed, DA/SA firearm. The trigger is so much better in SA mode than the striker-fired pistols I've tried (Glocks, XDs, S&W MP) and the ergonomics rule. I need to get one, even if it's only a Rock Island Armory or something like that.

The joys of DA/SA with an exposed hammer were made fully evident to me after I had the opportunity to shoot a Beretta 96. The recoil in that was the same as my Glock 17, despite being in .40S&W - I attribute it to the much heavier steel frame. After going through a couple magazines in the Beretta, going back to my Glock was like... ugh.
