The definitive Glock or 1911 answer

Postby plblark on Thu Jul 01, 2010 10:08 am

Here we go again

Some hack* has asserted:
How do I know if a 1911 is the right choice for me?
That is a tough question as I feel most people are best served NOT using a 1911 as a primary sidearm. Two criteria come to mind a) A passion for the 1911 platform and b) you are willing to be your own armorer and can fix relatively minor problems or fit certain parts yourself. If you are the kind of guy that doesn’t mind tinkering with your Harley Davidson motorcycle to keep it running then you are a candidate. If however you treat your pistols like we all treat our lawnmowers then don’t get a 1911 – use a Glock.

*ok, so not so much a hack

seems reasonable.

but we can't allow such a circular topic to argue about to be defined by such a clear and brief paragraph...

1911's suck! (except the one we own)

Glocks rule! (unless you fart around with them, then they don't rule at all)

So how could anyone in their right mind not agree with that.......
of course, then you should not be allowed to own or operate either a lawn mower or a weapon......
it is not the weapon, it is the owner/operator that makes the difference..... :?

Here we go again.......

Glock vs. 1911.... Kinda like saying

Chevy vs. Sedan

Oreos vs. Cookies

Apples vs. Fruit

Glock is a Brand, 1911 is a platform. There are plenty of ******* 1911 manufacturers out there. Comparing them is completely illogical.

What you can do though, is compare price points. Put a $500 glock up against a $500 1911 (pick your maker). If somebody would do that extensively, then I might pay attention. Comparing $500 guns to $1500 guns just isn't logical, and it exposes a person's ignorance if they believe they are making a legitimate argument by doing that.

Fair and straight forward reply....
and to support it I will put one of my $300 Norinco 1911 against any $500 Glock..........
winner takes all......

I'll take that challenge - though it doesn't seem fair to you. If you win, you get my tupperware - if I win, I get a quality 1911... ;)

Ok. But we use only .45acp ammo that I load on my press, in the secrecy privacy of my home

I bet we find a combo that the Norinco can't run, that my Glock can. You old hardballer you... :bolt:

Alright to be serious for a second. Frankly I see the cheaper 1911's being more reliable right out of the box, than compared to anything in the $800-$2000 range. Seems like you pay either $500 or $3000 for a 1911 and it works. Anywhere in between and you are asking for trouble.

Then again, getting 1911 fans to be honest about how well their 1911 worked out of the box, with no work done or tuning of ammo, isn't always easy. This is not a shot at HammAr or anyone else. But I see lots of folks with stars in their eyes about whatever gun they happen to love. Then their objectivity goes right out the door when they start telling you how well it runs.

nah we'll use my glock and your 1911. that way If I win, i'll sell your 1911 and buy two more glocks (i already have a perfectly fine 1911, don't need two more than don't work, I won the lottery and got one that works the first time. :didntdoit: )

If I won, I wouldn't want to disarm you of your tupperware. I don't want you knocking on my door when the SHTF because I took the only gun you had that worked!

Ok I'm done, just stirring the pot. I love a good 1911 vs Glock thread.

Not taken as a shot,
you or Plblark can even open the box, clean the cosmoline off, clean it, load it, and break the cherry.....

as a closet-1911 fan myself... that is almost tempting enough to go through with it.
