Mag holsters

Postby BillG22 on Thu Jul 08, 2010 4:27 pm

Long story short: I was thinking about checking out my club's IDPA. I do not have a mag holster of any kind. Any favorites out there?

I currently have a Glock 22. I suppose it is a personal feel type thing. If that is the case, I will need to find a store that actually stocks a few varieties.

I do not CC at this point, and probably will not with the .40, as it is a tad big (I have carried it around my property, and I need to tighten up the belt, if you know what I mean). So, size of holster is not an issue. Holster for pistol is a Blackhawk.

Thanks!

Just buy a couple of the Glock sport/combat mag holders, they can be found for around $5.00-8.00 and work well.

I would also check with our resident holster makers on the forum, most notably Srigs and Vlad. I use a mag holder and holster from Srigs at Sideguard holsters for all of my competition.

Streicher's should have one that might work.

For IDPA I like the inexpensive Fobus paddle double mag holders. I have two for 9mm/.40 double stacks, one for 1911 single stacks, and one for .45 caliber double stack magazines. When I bought them they cost me around 15 bucks apiece.

Actually... despite his joke hammAR has a valid point here. If you are just going to check out an idpa club, is there any reason you couldn't run your mags in your pocket? Some of the new shooters who check out uspsa down here do it. At that point in the game, just starting out, it will give you a feeling for what's it's like. If you like go buy the gear.

Maybe that's against idpa rules, I know it's fine for uspsa. Maybe someone who runs idpa could chime in?

At these matches there is usually someone that has a trunk full of extra gear. I would look into borrowing some at a match or from someone here before buying.

I don't listen to my own advice, and as a result, I have a veritable closet full of holsters and such.

I believe the rules say it is ok as long as you keep it that pocket configuration during the entire match (no moving to other pockets to "game" the stages). Plus, I don't think anyone is going to have an issue with it if you are a new shooter and trying it out.

That being said, I would still suggest the fobius mag holsters (or similiar). Paddle or belt loop is up to you, I prefer belt loop.

Thanks for all the replies.

Cabela's does not carry these things, so maybe a trip to TRF is in order.

Thanks again.
