Important North 2nd Saturday Breakfast Info, Poll and Alert!

Postby cmj685 on Mon Nov 26, 2007 2:25 pm

Guys (and gals)
I have finished surveying some (didn't get to all of them) of the restaurants suggested for the North 2nd Saturday Breakfast and added a few that I came across in the process. Here are some comments and a poll.
I thought north Roseville might be perfect but Countryside Chicken in Roseville has a very limited breakfast menu. Pippens in Roseville said they couldn't accommodate us due to their busyness. Didn't go down as far as Rosedale, where there are many possibilities. Keys has a no guns policy.
Riches in Mounds View--very small and no slide-together seating.
Pannekuiken Huis in Maplewood--they have a group which comes in every Saturday at 7:00 AM and takes the "back" room, and another Harley Biker group that takes the middle section, but they said they thought on most days they could fit us between them.
Old Country Buffet in Maplewood--great parking and great back room, but we have to fight other groups for it, at least for December.
Dennys in Maplewood--very accommodating. Said we could have their back room on a regular basis and they would put us on their schedule as reserved every month. Getting in to the place is a little odd (drive through a gas station).
Perkins in Vadnais Heights (I 35E and County E)--spoke with the manager who said she would do what she could to accommodate us. Sometimes it is busy like the Arden Hills Perkins. They don't have a more private space but the restaurant is divided into two and she said she would try to put us on the north side of the restaurant together.
I felt like Brooklyn Center and Lino Lakes area got too far out of the north central area so I didn't stop at any restaurants in either place.
So, at least for this coming December 8, why not vote in the poll as soon as you can and give me your feelings on what you would like to do? We will reserve at the place with most votes and see what happens from there. Also any appended comments are wecome!

It's a longer drive for me, but Denny's Grand Slam is hard to beat.

I have to agree with macphisto, maplewood is a drive for me too. But considering my track record of making these things I doubt my opinion is going to count for much :)

If Denny's is going to promise use the use of a private room every month I'm all for it. I don't think I've eaten at a denny's in about 5 years.

Using the given choices, I had to go with Denny's in Maplewood. Primarily due to their accomodating attitude and available room. I feel a little strange about the choice, however, since it's only about 2 miles from the house. I know it's a lot farther for most of you. But, unless we find something as accomodating in a more central location, I guess I'll have to live with it. Mike, I know the pros and cons of this have been discussed, but, did you mention the "G" word while you were there?

What pros? That's a break-even-or-lose proposition if I've ever seen one.

No mention of the "G" word. Decided to go with Joe and Jeff's counsel not to bring it up. But we didn't bring it up with Perkins either and it never became an issue so we will hope for as good a run with Denny's, if that is where the vote comes up.

I guess that depends on your goal. If you just want a place to have good times, of which there are many, you're right. If at least part of your objective is to raise an awareness of our presence and numbers, you can't lose. I was under the impression that we are doing all of this, the forum, the breakfasts, the steel shoots, etc, for more than just personal gratification. As for myself, I still think that in this situation, we should make this and issue with the management regarding the fact that we have permits and carry. Then they can make an informed decision whether to take our money or to refuse the business based on their fear of guns. One of the goals of our group should be increasing the number of permit holders in the state. By demonstrating that, other than by our decision take a degree of responsibility for our own safety, we are little different from them is one way to advance that goal.

You might take a look at Guldens Restaurant on Highway 61, just south of 694.....they have a basement meeting room that is very private.....our bike club meets there.....the service and service is outstanding.
