I don't think Caleb or I said anything about carry guns, we were talking about guns we took to the range or a match. I always clean my carry gun and function test it every time I practice with it, even if it is just 25 or 50 rounds of carry ammo. Target practice and competition are games, carrying is real life.

Caleb? Was he the one the other guy thought ratted him out? Hard to remeber all the drama on that show.

I think this makes my point actually. How do you know that the gun you will use to defend yourself at home is going to be your carry gun? ;) Yes, most likely it will, but I like to treat all my firearms like sophisticated pieces of machinery that need care to operate with the highest probability of success.

I think it depends on the gun too. My HK could go years without having to clean it, as was shown by some of the torture tests, but my 1911 needs some babying. Just today I decided to detail strip it for cleaning and found that I had some rust blooms from the july 24 IDPA shoot (it was really hot and sweaty that day). I felt kinda bad because I waited so long to clean it...

I just don't see the point in purposely delaying cleaning just because its the "cool" thing to do. If you have the time, clean it and care for it. :)

What ever happened to cleaning guns because it's fun?

That's why I do it.

That and because the voices in my head tell me to.

But really. There's something almost Zenlike about cleaning guns. It's something I look forward to.

It losses its zenness when you have done it for 4+ hours a day, and you know its not needed as much as people think. Its a tool, not a knob, you dont need to polish it everyday, a couple times a day.

You hit the nail on the head for me, I'm kinda addicted to working with machinery.

The only thing better than cleaning is putting new stuff/modifying the guns. :D

I'll clean em once a year, whether they need it or not.

But then again, I'm not sure if you guys consider my guns, real guns.

I agree... It's almost like raising a child.. There's pride in taking care of it.
