Proud of grandson

Postby Chunkychuck on Thu Aug 19, 2010 10:01 am

Took the two grandsons (6 and 4) out a few weeks ago and let them shoot the 22 carbine, with me helping control the muzzle. On the way out and while we were shooting, I worked them really hard on Rule 1, Always treat a gun as if it is loaded. Last night they were over for supper, so I asked them what rule #1 was? The 6 year old, knowing I have given them lots of rules, asked about what? I told him about guns. He said , "Always treat a gun that it is loaded" Made me proud.

That's great!

A bit of thread-drift, but I always thought it'd be nice if all the state's DNR's used the NRA's first two rules, and if the NRA used the "backstop" for their 3rd ...

http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/safety/firearms/index.html
* Treat each firearm as if it is loaded.
* Always control the muzzle of your firearm.
* Be sure of your target and what is beyond.

http://www.nrahq.org/education/guide.asp
1. ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
2. ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
3. ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.

Shame the two leading authorities on gun-safety can't agree on 3 simple rules.

'Less they changed the DNR "package" in the last few years, I'm still astounded they only mention "finger in the trigger-guard" as though it's merely a "suggestion".
