My old 311 didn't have a screw. It sort of "snapped" on and off.

Overcoming the issue of having to have a screwdriver to breakdown the single shots is a pretty easy issue to fix. Just find a machinist or hobby machanist and have him make you up a replacement screw with fold down wings or wire. You see these on equipment and other things all the time. You flip up the wire or "wing" unscrew the bolt or srew it down and fold over the wire or wing flush. It will require the remove a some wood from the forend for clearance but thats not a biggy. Then you have your Takedown Single Shot that requires no tools to disassemble.

The other option would be too put a spring loaded plunger on the buttplate where the lower screw goes, this is used to hold the buttplate in place. Most all these guns have a deep hole where the stock retaining bolt goes which is a great spot, and often overlooked area, for extra storage on the weapon. Next find the proper size screwdriver that fits the fore end and slide it in the back with a few cleaning patches to keep it from rattling. Problem solved.

Good idea, either one of the screws you mentioned, or even one like a thumb-screw for a PC case would work, as long as it wasn't right where I wanted to put my hand.

Or just put a leather man tool in your pocket and use that..... or hang one of these on your scooter key ring http://www.google.com/products/catalog? ... 8wIwAjgA#p

... or take my advice (or was it Deaner's?) and get a 311. The forestock snaps on and off. No screws. No little lever (like on most doubles). You just pull it off. They're inexpensive, and they do exactly what you are asking about.

I have a Rossi youth .410/.22lr combo that I bought for my daughter last year. It has the sling stud on the forearm and requires no tools to break down. It also came in a case that holds the receiver/stock and the two barrels, I am quite certain the whole package would fit in most motorcycle saddle bags. I believe Rossi makes these in adult sizes as well (Just add a recoil pad) in .20 gauge. The Rossi's also have a safety if that was a concern of yours.
