I guess I didn't think about the Brady Law. I have been living with permit to carry for too long I guess where the process was extremely convenient in other states.
Thanks for pointing this out FJ540 as I would not have considered that issue.

But I will stick with my opinion that permits are useless with background checks on every transactions made through dealers....as with the Brady Law being ineffective tool against violence.

I like that the PTC negates the need for a PTP. I also agree that since it's inception, the cooling off period hasn't made one lick of difference in the gun violence in this nation.

I'm so used to buying handguns and assault rifles, I instinctively whip out my PTP when I see the 4473. Got a GSG5 this weekend and they politely informed me "that's not necessary sir."

the ptp is a state level ok to purchase and nics is federal, not the same data base so in reality, you could get the ptp and fail nics and not get the firearm.

in az, with a ccw they don't do the nics check when buying a firearm as ccw check is more stringent.

Minnesota permit to purchase and permit to carry do not fully comply with Federal law. You can commit a white collar crime (felony) in Minnesota and still own a firearm. The Feds however look at it and say a felony is a felony and you are not getting your gun. The other thing is that the State does not have all of the information that is available to the Feds.
