Winchester Ranger T?

Postby vwj1987 on Tue Sep 28, 2010 5:34 pm

I just order a box of ranger t for my glock 30 from sgammo.com. I'm planning on carry those with my carry gun. I want to know what kind of self defense rounds you guys carry.

EXTREME SHOCK!!! j/k... It varies with the firearm but I try to keep it down to a round that has quite a bit of testing behind it like the Ranger/HydraShock/etc. With my .380 I'm just using standard FMJ PMC rounds. 8-)

I currently use gold dots, they have always been consistently a top performer but realistically any major non gimmick hollwpoint is just fine and will do the job just fine, heck any fmj will do the job just fine too but the choice is up to you, personally I dont want to get hit with anything coming out of the business end of any firearm.
I choose gold dots because of their consistency, their availability, the ability to practice with them and not send myself to the poorhouse, I absolutely wouldnt feel undergunned with the Ranger T's you mentioned

Federal 40S&W 165 HST, or Federal 357 158g Hydrashocks. Keeping buisness local :D

Do they just deduct that from the paycheck, or do they go on the honor system?

I like the hst too. I also carried the 40s&w hornady critical defense when I still had my glock 22

i load hornady critical defense in all my defensive guns regardless of caliber. low flash, stout and the hollow point has that neato rubbery stuff in it that keeps it from expanding through clothing/layers until it hits the business. excellent for january in the upper midwest IMHO ;)

i'm a big fan of hornady products. never had an issue with any and has consistently performed reliable and accurate.

It's a dirty little secret, but conventional hollow point bullets experience tip clogging as the bullet passes through light and heavy clothing, which diminishes expansion and causes unreliable bullet performance...............and keep in mind that when compared to rifles and shotguns, handguns are not the most potent form of self protection. In fact, the vast majority of people shot with handguns, in excess of 80 percent, survive.

Gunny, wouldn't you also attribute that to the poor marksmanship of those doing the shooting, compounded with our excellent trauma capabilities at virtually all regional hospitals (and lets not even get lifelink air paramedics involved here)?

I do agree with your premise that a hand gun is not a replacement for a rifle, but even rifle shot wounds aren't 100% lethal either.

What was it Cooper said about handguns? "A handgun is good for fighting your way back to the rifle you never should have left in the first place." Something like that. But, yeah, the difference between a ~1000fps wound channel and a ~3000fps wound channel is... astounding.

I have a bit of strategy in my SD ammo . Thanks to the sound logic of Don Larson. I carry what the local police do... In my case, federal hydroshocks.

If I ever was on trial, and my choice of ammunition came into question (to many potential jurors hollow-point = cop killer), I could say:
I use what my local PD does. If it's good enough for them to protect themselves, it's good enough for me.
