Great class, if you missed out we are having half day class October 16th $75, a one day CFS class October 17th $175 and the ful 2 day Combat Focus Shooting course November 6 and 7, 2010 $350. Here is a review from one of the students last weekend.
I've been a big fan of Rob Pincus and Combat Focus Shooting for a number of years, and I recently had a chance to complete the two-day Combat Focus Shooting course with Jon Abel and Jeff Mullenmeister, two CFS certified instructors. 1,000 rounds and 140 reloads later, the CFS philosophy moved from theory to practice. This is not a course for the timid - by the end of the two day course, even the most hardened and experienced students were passing a roll of athletic tape to wrap their hands that were beaten raw by the volume of fire. The CFS course and philosophy are based upon the premise that the body and mind will undergo a series of automated responses to a lethal threat. Every course of fire, including the "SEB Drill," the "Colored Number Drill," the "Figure-Eight Drill," and others, are designed to reinforce a skill set designed to match those automated responses, rather than trying to override them.
Unlike other advanced courses I've attended, the CFS coaches were constantly engaged, walking the line, making individual adjustments and suggestions, and providing on the spot photographic and video reviews. The volume of fire in this course was also incredible - these were not the typical range exercises where 2 - 3 magazines were fired per drill, and then back to the classroom for a review. In this course, the range is the classroom, and each drill ate up hundreds of rounds and dozens of reloads, effectively baking those skills into our brains. Another element that separates the CFS course from others, is that the instructors always kept us off balance - until the commands were issued, we had no idea which target, where on the target, or how many rounds or reloads would be required to satisfy that stage. The instructors described that approach as necessary to avoid having us "choreograph" each stage, which sets this course apart from "gaming" that most of the shooters were familiar with, and closer to a real world critical incident.
If you've been thinking about investing in one of the many advanced pistol courses, give Combat Focus Shooting a try. In two days, you'll receive more coaching and fire more rounds than you'd fire in a comparable four-day course, and the great news is that you can take the CFS course in your home state of Minnesota or Iowa. Every student left the course not only more confident and capable, but we also left as true believers in the CFS philosophy.
