As you stated you have some past history, which will almost always trigger the system, and require the dealer to talk to a 2nd
person (examiner) at the FBI when calling in. They can often look through those items while on the phone and issue a proceed.
Weekends are super busy and will almost always result in a delay as they don't have as much time to look through records.

As Munchie said, 3 full business days have to pass if the dealer doesn't get another call. Then they can proceed.
So if they don't hear anything by Thursday, you're good to go. It's common to get a call on Monday and get a proceed after a delay on the weekend.
Don't worry about it.

The number one reason for a NICS delay is a DWI - I would guess at least half of delays are due to this reason. A further check needs to be done to determine if the DWI was drug or alcohol related, and the call center can't do that while you wait. A close second would be delays due to name conflicts (Juniors and Seniors, name changes due to marriage, etc).
