I don't understand how some people have these kinds of marriages. It doesn't matter whether you are a man or a woman. If your spouse does not like you for who you are....that marriage is not a loving one.

Rather than finding a place to store your firearm....maybe you need to talk to your wife. Is there a particular reason why she doesn't want your gun at home? Is your wife a certified hoplophobic? Are you incompetent and cannot keep firearms safe? Do you have kids with mental disorder that can and will handle your firearm and cause danger to others? Is your house open to all types of people that will take your gun and only your gun? Can you not afford to buy a safe?

Do not be offended by those questions. There are many reasons for not keeping guns in your household, but it better be a rational one. 'Because my wife wont' let me' is not a reason.

The question should not be "is there another place to store my gun?", but the question should be how can we, as a family, make the decisions that are rational?

1:Get a safe.

2: Put wife in safe.

3: she can no longer see the rifle in closet next to the safe.
-Get a rope Tuco.

If my previous recommendation of talking doesn't work, this is a good advice....at least that way....

4: She will remain safe

Let us know what exactly her reservations/problems are and I'm sure that some of us can offer some (useful) advise on how to handle it.

IIRC, this was a bolt-action rifle?

All ya really need to do is lock-up the bolt. At that point, the rest of the gun is jest a steel tube.

Almost any small lock-box would do.

There's almost nowhere ya could hide somethin' like that, that a kid (presumin' this is part of the issue) couldn't find it. So I wouldn't try.

At the least, ya could keep the bolt at work ... or a P.O. Box.

Anymore, there's no excuse fer not keepin' any gun locked up. If ya don't got the means to lock it up, ya need to git the means. That's part of ownin' a gun. 'Less ya can 100% guarantee that no untrained hands will otherwise come in contact with it (i.e. "no kids, 'er grandkids, 'er nieces, 'er nephews, 'er any such thing").

Again, securing a bolt-action rifle is no big trick.

Beyond what's been provided already, git to Menards 'er Fleet Farm and pick up a Stack-On steel cabinet ... I'd be surprised if they're over $100.

Beyond all that, and Brady Bunch propaganda, yer actually LESS safe without guns in the house ... not the other way 'round. 'Less 'course yer wife decides she's had 'nuff of yer shenanigans, and shoots ya with it. Image

I think you guys scared carl away, I think you need to rename your rifle to her name not your ex gf's name then maybe you can keep it at home,
But seriously just talked to her, keep it properly stowed and secure it, if she has a fear of guns have her take one of tootsie class for wimen folks, basic firearms for wimen, and get her involved before you know it she be picking out the accessories for your piece and build a bigger collection than you have, and then you can use the excuse "honey I bought it for you" evrytime you get caught with a new piece

You need to approach it as others have recommended.

1) Come up with a secure storage option. Depending on what type of rifle you have -- you can buy a long shank flexible lock, and run it through the open action before locking it shut as well. Barring that, buy the 10-gun Stack On security cabinet.

2) Have a frank discussion with your wife regarding safe/secure storage. Explain your ideas (have pictures/descriptions) and how you've come up with these ideas to help assuage her reservations.

3) Ask for her support of your hobby/likes/activities as (despite stereotypes) a marriage is a two way street.
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.

I was cleaning Suomi drum magazines at the kitchen table and my wife asked me to put them away because we had company coming over. I was upset at the time, but after reading this.. not so much.

I'm guessing his wife stumbled upon this thread and took away the computer.

If that's the case, the "wife in the safe" solution advanced above is starting to look better by the minute...
