Looking to shoot my Mosin today, any ranges open?

Postby autobahn on Sat Nov 20, 2010 11:09 am

Looks like Oakdale is open today, are any other rifle ranges open to the public?

I want to see how accurate my Mosin is/how well I can shoot it. I'm using surplus ammo (steel) so I don't think any of the indoor ranges would work.

I'm pretty sure that Bill's allows steel cases. It's aluminum they don't like since they can't get it with a magnet.

He's talking steel core bullets.
It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.

Well actually I thought bill's didn't like steel cases either for some reason, which I really never understood. I think the ammo I have is lead core.

So I'm an idiot. Maybe I'll go to an indoor range. Burnsville pistol seems like it may be a nice place.

Yep.... But they will magnet test the bullets... make sure its not steel core... steel case = ok.

Ahlman's in Fairbault. You could probably shoot an RPG at the range and noone would know. I love that crappy lil range. :)

I saw that, but it's a long haul. Are they pretty chill regarding rules there? (not to compromise safety, of course?)

I want to bring some friends and sometimes the range officers at some of the local ranges I've been to have been a little on the strict side when I'm helping a friend with their shooting.

I believe the rules are: Don't shoot yourself, don't shoot someone else, don't shoot the highway to the right, don't shoot trash targets, and avoid rapid rifle fire.

I have shot this ammo at the indoor ranges. Brass case and nonmagnetic.

I have shot that Wolf ammo at bills. I even pointed it out to them as I wasn't really going to shoot that gun but had it with me. He said it was cool. Just no aluminum ammo.
