How many mags do you carry?

Postby 4thfin on Thu Dec 20, 2007 12:59 pm

Hello all

When you are carrying, how many mags do you bring with and where do you put them? I know this will depend on the exact type of gun, but just curious here.

Thanks

Just 1, and just to confuse people.

I plan to throw it at a bad guy while the wheelgun comes out to play.

Good idea! Dang, I should have hung onto one of those .45 ACP 10-rounders.
For now I just carry one of these in a jacket pocket:Image

One speed strip or mag in weak-side front pocket depending on the gun I'm carrying. Oh, and one in the gun, of course.

all depends on the gun.

HI cap, one in and another in the holder, average about 24-30 rounds,

reg 1911, one in gun, one 10 rounder in the mag holder off side, and two more in the right rear pocket. I had a wallet modified to carry two 1911 mags in a hip pocket, works well, even though its weak side.

I carry one auto, and one revolver. Auto strong side revolver weak. In the winter I’ll carry and extra mag. summer two guns no reload.

I rarely carry a reload, although my glove box is stocked with backup mags far all my carry guns. Unless I'm going into a higher-risk area (e.g. malls and Murderapolis), I tend not to bother.

It really doesn't make a lot of sense to carry a bulky gun, but not a small and light (by comparison) extra mag or two. Then again, I'm sort of a nonsensical kinda guy.

Like many of the others you will hear from the only answer I can give is, it depends on the situation and gun. At a minimum I carry a j-frame, at the most a 1911 with 2 spare 8 round mags.

This varies depending on the place and clothes, it is easy to conceal a j-frame while in a suit in a place full of antis. If I am in north Minneapolis or other higher threat areas I tend to carry a commander size and two reloads.

As Jeff Cooper said, one spare is none and two spare mags is one spare mag and there are times the only cure for a malfunction is a spare magazine.

Generally one extra mag for the primary and a BUG.

At the Mall of America, 2 extra for the primary and an extra for the BUG.

At work it is at least 1 extra on my person and one near by, in non work life usually just the one in the gun and an occasional BUG.
