Yes goalie, come on down to Faribault and shoot, I need another person to confuse me by helping me think through a stage. I am better to just go to the line, shoot and move, much less confusing than trying to think it through, just do it.

Where do you guys shoot down there? I did a class at a guy's backyard range once down there.

With my new job, I could probably work out at least a few Wednesday nights, since I just work 3 days a week. Weekends are much tougher, as summer=cabin for me on the weekends if I am not working.

Oh, and a lot of this is a moot point to me, as I would be shooting a revolver now anyhow.

After posting my position and then having hammAR and Goalie explain their reasons I want to post one more thing.
Ahrens, tim and westberg as well as other pour a TON of effort into running these matches. Without those guys who do all that work, there would be no shooting matches for those who enjoy them to compete in. I want to make sure that it is understood I have a huge amount of respect for them and my issues are with the "gamey" nature, and absolutely nothing to do with those who run all the different matches that go on through there effort.

In the past we have had threads about this but I hope they will understand it's never meant to be personal.

Almost forgot to mention Selurcspi and China and JoeH as other who work like dogs to put these matches on

Speaking for myself, I don't pour a ton of effort into them ... anymore.

Thankfully, Tim took over the lion's share of that.

I really can't stress 'nuff ... the OTHER guys ... and there's only a few ... but JEEZ do they work hard ... it's THOSE guys. ALL this talk (mine included) don't amount to ****. When ya've been around ANY type of organized shooting, TWO things become VERY clear ... 1. if ya ain't got jest ONE guy willin' to step up, 'n say "I'll do it", ya ain't gonna have matches, fer long ... 2. if ya ain't got at least two 'er three OTHER guys willin' to DO WHAT IT TAKES to BE THERE ... EVERY match ... workin' like dogs ... yer on borrowed time (that's not to say ya don't need others to show up early 'n stay late ... but there's definitely a transition in the level of commitment, there).

I hate to draw this out, but it has to be said ... ya ain't got these 4 'er 5 guys, ya ain't got ****, no matter HOW ya think things need to be done. That's what makes Bob 'n his crew at SCAPSA the best ... EVERY year, they do it ... EVERY week ... fer probly TWICE as long as Oakdale (if not more) ... PLUS a few weekends ... and not jest targets thrown up ... GOOD courses ... and BETTER people!

This may come as an utter shock to some folks ... but there's more 'n our fair share of ***holes who own guns. Sometimes ... not very often ... they frequent USPSA/IDPA leagues. SOMETIMES, a NEW ***hole comes to a USPSA/IDPA match, and runs into a veteran ***hole ... sometimes they become best of friends ... sometimes not.

That is treasonous talk that should not have been allowed on this forum. Besides, it's a lie. Among gun owners there's exactly our fair share of ********, not one more! Well OK maybe one or two more.

Seriously: what Ahrens said. If a 'training game' can be better training then let's make it so. If it's far from perfect yet, hey, enjoy it and take it for what it is, or go do something else.

A good idpa shooter, or a good USPSA shooter...
Would not be my choice of people to go up against in a two way match.

Both practice draws, reloads, shooting on the move, shooting fast AND accurate.
Even a D hit would hurt like a SOB.

Look at the number of total misses in a match with 60 people firing over 100 rounds each.
Even if you double or triple the misses due to increased stress, you're still better than the LAPD.

Ha, that's true, it removes what, it seems to me, is often a pretty critical decision you have to make -- when to start shooting.
And just as important, when you're done. Hopefully I won't do "unload and show clear" out of habit.

But whatcha gonna do? The truly practical shooting sport I've imagined, where competitors stalk each other 24/7, people tell me has 'safety concerns'.
