As far as 9x23 being hard on the gun, the brass is ungodly stromg, which is why you have to use SMALL RIFLE PRIMERS with the loads. Pistol primers will fail long before the brass will, so the stress on the chamber is probably not any worse than usual. With my EAA 38 Super Match, I just threw a Wolff 22# recoil spring in the gun and it runs fine, and the brass doesn't eject abnormally far, which IS the sign of an undersprung gun.

And considering that these CDNN Tauruses have to be recent production, it's a good bet that the chamber dimensions are set up for fully rimless cartridges. All you need is a recoil spring that is 4# - 6# heavier for 9x23, providing Taurus didn't cheap out on the construction like they sometimes have in the past.

Springfield made a 38 Super in their Mil-Spec gun, and those show up from time to time. RIA still makes one that you can find for under 450.00 new.

Yep.

Centerfire Systems

Of course, the Taurus at CDNN is only $30 more, and that includes a few upgrades (sights, hammer, beavertail, ambi safety, and trigger), that would easily put the cost of the RIA over that of the Taurus.

as far as 9x19 is concerned, I'd agree. But an STI or Para 38 Super with 18 rounds of 357 mag equivalent ammo is no joke, and if the apocalypse comes and you are confronted with 9 zombies or 9 Somalis or 9 Obama apologists, what good is an 8 shot 45 ACP 1911 going be??

a) that is why I carry an 8 rounder with one in the pipe...and
b) that is why I carry two 10 round reloads....and
c) that is why the 1911 is good, it is a weapon unto itself....
d) that is why I use FMJ, most of the time you can take out two with one shot....
besides if it was the 9 Obama apologists they will piss themselves and run if you just say "Boo, I have a gun!"...........

You guys are right of course when considering the main purpose of the pistol, but IMO as long as you have the serious calibers covered to your satisfaction, there's nothing wrong with having a 1911 that lets you plink with cheap and wimpy 9mm. BTW, just a barrel and recoil spring swap, and as Sam noted, my P18-9 becomes a 38 super 18+1 round zombie killing machine. :D
