That's just the stuff said that you heard......
It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.

You do realize that is the title of the thread, right? Go ahead and make another one called "Stuff you didn't hear at the range" and let's see how that turns out. ;)

What? I would've been ticked off had they not allowed me to police and keep my own brass. "Once the casings touch the floor they become our property?" What kind of BS is that? I would've picked up my own cases and told them not to bother lecturing me about it because I was never coming back. If you don't mind telling, what place was this?

I've only been shooting once at an indoor range (Burnsville Indoor Pistol Range) and it was decent. I didn't get flashed or anything, and the other people seemed nice. The old timer conversation I had was at my outdoor range. He was a really nice guy and had a lot of cool stories, but he did say some wonky stuff. I've been chatted up by quite a few elderly men there, I'm thinking because they're retired and don't get a lot of social interaction outside of an annoying wife. A lot of them want to talk more than shoot it seems. One guy had a beautiful collection of Smith & Wesson revolvers all the way back to the 60's (at least that's the oldest he brought). Of course he had bought them all new, since he himself was over 80. The darndest thing was, he could still shoot better than I could with his 83-year-old eyes and simple iron sights.

As far as brass goes, I don't mind if people ask me if they can collect my brass. I just tell them that I reload - no harm, no foul. However, people picking up my brass without asking is incredibly rude.

Sometimes I'll pickup other peoples brass because it gets thrown into the same area mine is... I'll ask if they want it back after I've picked mine out. Kinda stupid for two people to have to pickup a different casings a single person could in one grab. One guy was collecting his .40s&w brass and a lot of it was getting thrown by me, so I went up to him with a big pile and asked him if he wanted it and he said "no I don't use 9mm" he seemed a bit surprised when I told him it was his brass that was getting thrown a good 4 stalls down. ;)

Many indoor ranges have this policy including Bill's last I was aware. I may well be incorrect tho as I have not asked since I was told this a god while ago.

Old Bills GS might have had those rules, wouldn't surprise me since they sold the business. New rules: http://billsgs.com/?page_id=27

- Pick up only your own brass that is behind the firing line. Do not pick up brass in front of the firing line. Do not reach over firing line. Do not disturb other shooters while picking up your brass. Do not pick up brass from another shooters point while they are shooting even if it is your brass.

Talking to the RO at Dakotah Sport & Fitness, guy had his S&W .500 double tap and destroy the target carrier. I think he almost dropped it and squeezed off another round he thought that too. But I only have a plastic gun.(I think it's old enough to vote :o ).

You're absolutely entitled to pick up your brass at both Bill's locations, and it has been that way for at least the last 8-10 years.

There was a brief time that they tried to limit it in ways that were a bit unreasonable. For a while I was told that I couldn't pick up my brass that had gone outside of my particular lane, and also couldn't pick up other peoples brass that had come into my lane. My recollection is that these rules were generally ignored almost immediately and therefore went rapidly by the wayside. I guess that they were instituted primarily to counter the folks who think it is their right to sweep the whole range into their brass collection bags.

Yeah I don't want other peoples brass but I do want mine. I guess it has been a long time since I used the range at Bill's. Maybe have to give it another try sometime.

Bill's North has always allowed the picking up of your own brass as long as I've been going there -- about 5 years. I always try to get into one of the two rightmost lanes at the range so as to not disturb any other shooters. They have 2 separate rooms.

The biggest problem we have, if there is one, is the guy who goes to the lane next to his own and slips a broom between that person's feet to get his brass.. often while he is shooting. The brass might belong to him but that is totally unsafe.
