There they say that the killer "walked up and shot Gifford in the head first", and only then started shooting everyone else. "The gunman was young, mid-to-late 20s, white, clean-shaven with short hair and wearing dark clothing and said nothing during the shooting or while being held down, although he struggled at first."

Curious that the guy didn't kill himself when they caught him.

According to the Wiki entry she was a pro-gun Democrat and supported border security. Wonder what set that guy off...

Giffords has discussed her gun ownership and support for gun rights opposing the DC gun ban and signing an Amicus curiae brief with the US Supreme Court to support overturning it.

I'm here in Tucson and the local news is going non-stop about this event. They're saying the gunman did shout out something before he fired.

Now they are saying she is still alive in critical condition...

Hang him in the public square.

Maybe they should take a few of the thousands of people guarding the president and assign one or two off them to congressional members.

They keep going back and forth on whether or not she's still alive. My fear now is the "wonderful" anti gun lobby will start running with this. Hopefully she'll make it, but shot in the head, not looking good. Prayers for all the injured/casualties.

From an AP story

"According to the law enforcement official, the suspect began shouting something before shooting wildly with an automatic weapon. Shots then rang out from the crowd -- a security agent or someone else fired at the suspect who survived."

Very surprised if it was an "automatic" weapon!

Arizona state Sen. Linda Lopez, who is a friend of Giffords, told Fox News that Giffords is responding to commands and that she's confident that she will survive surgery. But she's sure what her long term prognosis is.

They left out part of the perp description; such as the possibility of his name being Mohamed or Julio. Jes saying, she wanted the border clamped down, who would appose that position?
