Answering a heath provider's question

Postby MNVET43 on Wed Jun 23, 2010 5:41 pm

Just a thought to consider when answering [b]any[b] question by a health person. Remember that your history (possibly including what you answer in the health questions) will be incorportated into your permanent records. These records will then be available to those who have access to them. That will include Government agencies (if not now, then in the future).

Too bad you had that boating accident. It was a horrible weekend, so many of us lost our collections to the lake...

Keep unloaded guns? They can kiss my butt.

When they can knowledgeably discuss fast access safes and proper placement of such, along with knowing why the gun on my hip is the safest gun in the house, THEN they can open their mouths.

Yeah, I'm a bit prickly today.

This is a very good point, and in all actuality they may just be misinformed on the issue. You also have to remember that they are going off of some entity's national guidelines, which get boiled down to:

1.) Which is safer?

    A. Loaded in a drawer/table.
    B. Unloaded in a safe.

And I would assume their point of view is gun owners of the "sportsman" variety (primarily hunting, target shooting). The whole carry/self defense readiness aspect probably doesn't even enter into the equation for them (or their statistics, which is what drives these things usually). In all actuality, they are probably looking at stats on gun placement in the home scrounged from firearm discharge injuries they see from hospital reports. They see "Child found firearm in drawer/shoebox/closet" and they draw the solution as "Secure firearms in safe".

:D "Secure firearms on head of household" probably didn't cross their mind. ;)

Educating them about the aspects you mentioned would be useful and welcomed. :)

Since I believe most are married, I personally prefer to ask if they have a monogamous marriage. If not, how many partners and do they take measures to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. Now since they will most likely physically touching my family and I, I think those questions are much more relevant than if there are any firearms in the home.

Now on any of these forms I usually put N/A to several questions that are not related to why I am there and leave it at that.
