Want to help out an awesome cause, have a chance to shoot, and bid on some cool items? On February 13th at 6:00pm, the Christian Gun Owners Association will be hosting a charity event at Bill's Gun Shop in Robbinsdale to raise money for the MN Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. All proceeds are being donated for childhood cancer research. There will be a silent auction as part of the event. Here is list of some of the items donated thus far:
* Full line of AK-47 DVD's from Gabe Suarez (http://www.onesourcetactical.com/kalashnikovrifle.aspx)
* 4 passes to a St. Paul Saints Game
* Firearms related art (photos from two different artists)
* 10 holsters donated by Remora Holsters (http://www.remoraholsters.com/)
* An ATF basket (A nice bottle of Johnnie Walker Red, Cigars, and Ammo donated by yours truly)
* An autographed drum head signed by Andy Williams the former drummer for the band Casting Crowns and now the drummer for Soul Sister Sally (http://www.soulsistersally.com/)
* A custom made tactical knife made by Ryan Hoskins, a local blacksmith
* Holster(S) donated by Side Guard Holsters

Please consider this your official Invite to the event. Bring your checkbooks and let's have some fun and raise money for am awesome cause. Here is a the story of Charlotte, the little girls who inspired the event, written by her dad Justin:

On February 15th, 2010 my barely 2.5 year old little girl with blonde curls and big blue eyes was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Later that day we were admitted to Childrens' Hospital and spent the week on the 8th floor. Charlotte had a porta-cath implanted that Wednesday and her treatment began the same day as well. I have wished almost every day; certainly with each treatment Charlotte has endured, that I could just change places with her. The last six months have been the most trying our young family could imagine. Her Leukemia has been clinically in remission since the middle of March and she is expected to continue responding exceptionally to the treatment. Her protocol runs for about 2.5 years. We have one more month of treatment before she enters Maintenance which will last until mid-2012.

When Charlotte was born I learned what true love is. I was pretty sure I knew before, but, she taught me what it was. When she was diagnosed, our hearts broke to be sure. We didn't give up because we knew she didn't understand what was going on and the beauty and innocence of being a kid means that she doesn't have the baggage that we do of CANCER or LEUKEMIA. We have learned from our almost 3 year old now how to live for each day and take things as they come. She has taught us about courage and perseverance; she won't give up and doesn't complain about much. All the planning in the world couldn't prepare a family for this. Every day brings new challenges and new joys. She loves to ride her trike and scooter and dances a ton. She has a new baby sister, Amelia (13 weeks old), who loves to smile at her big sister.

She thinks it's funny sometimes to say:

+"Daddy has short hair like I have short hair" hers is growing back; mine just goes back

+(from the bathtub) "let's not blowdry my hair tonight"

30 years ago her diagnosis was essentially a death sentence. As recently as 10 years ago, her treatment and prognosis would have been much less promising. Today, advances through research and trials have gotten to a point where the survival rate is approaching 90% and incidence of recurrence declines every year. Leukemia Lymphoma Society not only helps families cope with the challenges of diagnoses like Charlotte received; they also fund and provide grants for research to continue their relentless search for a cure to blood cancers.

This is a great cause and there have already been some awesome donations for the silent auction and I am sure there will be more. I have it on my calendar and barring my own treatment schedule I will attend.

One more brief update;
Cross Breed Holsters stepped up with 5 gift certificates for holsters.

A few things that I have neglected to mention:
1) This is a family friendly event. Bring you kids if you want. Mine will be there.
2) We will have some food here as well. It is looking like hot dogs ($1), chips ($.25), soda.
3) This is a casual event. Jeans and t-shirts are fine.
4) We will be selling ammo for use that night at discounted rates. The rates have not been established, but it will be cheaper than normal range rates.
5) we encourage you to bring cash or your checkbook, but we will have a method for taking credit cards as well (We pay a service fee for the credit cards, so to maximize the amount of money raised, we are encouraging other payment methods.)

That's all for now. Please let me know if you have any questions.

OK, I think this will be last update for the Shooting for a Cure event happening this Sunday. John Monson (Owner of Bill's) has agreed to let us use the Full Autos during the event. We will have trained instructors (Certified by Bill's) to run the machine guns. The cost to shoot the machine guns is $10 per gun plus ammo. :gun:
