Best place to sell tools?

An update for those who were interested...

I finally picked up the tool chest last Friday. I intended to do it earlier, but after dealing with my brothers apartment and all that stuff, I was emotionally exhausted. Thankfully, when I got to the shop he worked, they had the chest on a large hoist and I just had to back up under it, drop it in, and secure the load. Sure was a heavy SOB.

To get it out of my truck I had to empty all the drawers, then remove the drawers. Finally it was light enough to take out. It's an old Matco chest that has definitely seen some use.

It wasn't the tool treasure chest I thought it would be. I'd say on average, it's all Craftsman tools. Some Snap-On, and some store-brands too. I took a few items out of there. My niece took a few things out, and soon her brother will be going through it. What will be left, I don't know. I'm not sure if I want to sort out the various sets or just get rid of it. When I'm ready to sell, though, I'll post it here first.

Why don't you just clear out a corner of your garage and use it for it's intended purpose? Maybe you're not mechanically inclined, but it's a nice storage unit and a way to remember your brother. Old tools and storage units don't sell for a lot, and tools are worth their weight in gold when/if you need them.

With tools/tool boxes brand is everything. Snap on is king, craftsman lifetime replacement is good, matco. Where he was employed would be a good place to start, his co workers could give you a good idea of value. If the box shown were snap on would be 2k empty.

thats not really true, thats like saying every ford car is worth 10k regardless

The tool chest isn't mine, it's my nieces. I'm helping them get rid of the stuff they don't want. They did offer it to me, but they need the cash more than I need the chest. Once I find out the value, I may then decide to pay them for it.

The picture I posted is not what I have. This one is actually 2 bays wide, is missing one of the handles, the other one is bent, and while it's not rusty, it is scratched up. The drawers & slides are in good shape though.

a well broken in tool chest is nice too. A buddy at work gave me a huge kennedy chest, full of tools. It's a little rusty, but the drawers all open and close like they have been used 10k times. Probably have, since the date he wrote on it when he got it, is from before I was born.
