I shot IDPA for several years with a Glock 34, and then switched over to the M&P Pro. I gotta' tell you that neither gun ever malfunctioned (ever!) in the field, but for me the M&P Pro pointed so much better naturally and was so much more accurate. I am a tried and true M&P guy now.

I own an XD and I own a Glock. I quite enjoy them both. I've also put quite a few rounds downrange through my friend's M&P. That is also quite nice and wouldn't hesitate to buy one. But I'm probably not a very good person to ask because I pretty much like every gun. My 1911, Sig, and HK are all favorites too. I don't have a fanboy attitude towards any one brand. There is a place in my heart for any gun, even if there is no room in my safe.

Go rent a couple different ones. Best shooter goes home with you.

IMO the trigger fell is one fo the biggest differences. Many folks have a trigger job done on the XD's and the are excellent afterwards but it adds cost and is not a do it yourself job. The M&P's seem to have a better feel right out of the box.

It is really a matter of preferance, they are all fine guns you just need to determine what works for you.

I prefer the lower bore axis of the M&P over the XD. I've also got to ask, have you tried shooting a Glock yet?

Cadet-

Let me settle this for you and step out on a limb by saying... you will shoot the M&P faster than the XD. I'm sure of it.

My proof (anecdotal as it may be) is in 5-10 of my fellow IDPA shooters that switched over to the M&P from XDs, Glocks, Sigs, et al. They all saw a dramatic increase in their match performance immediately upon switching to the M&P. Perhaps there is a placebo effect here; I'm not sure. Who cares? It worked.

Plus, as you've already noted, there are great DIY components from Apex.

The very first time I shot my M&P I made Expert. Not long after that I made Master. Thanks JoeH.
