Always let people know you are new, this will help you not hurt you.

Go slow and be safe, speed will come with time.

Bring a lot more than 100 rounds unless you're very confident. (I generally bring 200-250 just to make sure)

Do not feel you need to buy a holster and mag holders for your first time but if you do own them definitely bring them.

Make sure you bring a lunch, getting to town and back during the break is an iffy proposition at best.

Be ready to have a ton of fun.

And bring plenty to drink (no alcohol), ie: water, pop, or whatever.

I'm going to miss the steel shoots but not Minnesota!

After really enjoying the last 2 seasons of the steel shoots, I'm headed back South!

I really enjoyed re-learning match shooting skills since it had been about 10 years since I had shot in any matches. Those of you who have never been, be sure and attend. If you do it one time, you will have fun, meet nice people make sure not to miss another match.

Looking forward to being in a state where I can shoot outdoors year round!

Thanks to China and Benny, you guys put on a great shoot!

I have already started packing! Georgia here I come!

Keep on eye on the for sale section, going to sell off some furniture I don't want to move!

You can do that here. Of course, it gets a little sticky in the summer months, and regardless of what they say, Off! works better as an attractant than as a repellent for Minnesota mosquitoes.

Tizzo said he would give me a ride, so I am going to my first steel shoot ever. I have some questions.

#1 What time do things usually wrap up?

#2 What is the ground like? Would I be better off wearing tennis shoes or work boots?

#3 Does this thing go on no matter what the weather is?

#4 It says “Cost = $10 for non club members $5 for members (Membership is $35 this year, so this could be a break even or better deal)” What does it take to be a member besides the membership fee?

#5 Can I become a member on Saturday?

#6 Is there something like a new shooters meeting?

Oh I am jacked up to do this. I have never done anything like this before, I can’t wait. It would be nice to meet some board members while I’m there also.

It depends on if you stay for the man v man. If you leave before, figure on it wrapping up somewhere from 2:00-2:30. If you stay, 3:30-4:00.
TH3180 wrote:#2 What is the ground like? Would I be better off wearing tennis shoes or work boots?
This time of year, DEFINITELY wear something you won't mind getting muddy. At a minimum, I would recommend hiking boots.
TH3180 wrote:#3 Does this thing go on no matter what the weather is?
Yes.
TH3180 wrote:#4 It says “Cost = $10 for non club members $5 for members (Membership is $35 this year, so this could be a break even or better deal)” What does it take to be a member besides the membership fee?
I'm not a member, but I believe all it requires is payment of the membership fee.
TH3180 wrote:#5 Can I become a member on Saturday?
Yes.
TH3180 wrote:#6 Is there something like a new shooters meeting?
Benny runs all newbies (and I'm assuming anyone else who desires a quick refresher) through a training session on how to draw from a holster. Seeing as how you shot the winter league at BPR, you may be exempt from that. Prior to anyone putting a round downrange, Benny and China have a safety briefing, explaining the course of fire for each stage, and what is expected of each shooter.
TH3180 wrote:It would be nice to meet some board members while I’m there also.
You will. Best guess is that at least 75 - 80% of the attendees will be members of either MNGunTalk, CarryForum.com, or both.

Hope this helps.

Yeah I'm not worried about my score to much. I know that will come with trigger time. I wish I had something other than my work boots but that is what I have besides shoes. From all the youtube movies I have watched it doesn't look like there is a lot of running.

The initial Steel shoot is generally stationary. the Man V Man is 5-6 stages for each contestant. You start from a central post, on command both contestants run to their box. Only once inside the box do you draw, then you try to get yours down first. Oh, don't forget the MANDATORY reload before the last target ;-)

So yeah, you're gonna run ~30 feet ~6 times.

Mostly, it will be walking down range and back to reset targets between the man v man stages.

I'm bringing my hunting boots. The limiting factor in my runs is my physical health, not my footwear :-=)

If you draw me in the M v M you'll have an easy round. I have two new hips, 1 in 2007, the other in 2009. Doc said no running.
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

What determines your time in the Man v. Man is about 9% how fast you shoot, 90% how much you miss, and 1% how fast you run (or walk).

Pat missed the % of time for the Reload. Revolver shooters have caught up and beat Semi-Auto shooters on the reload and vice versa.

Are the one that had the 2 younger guys with you last Thursday?
