Passed out of committee... ready for floor.

My guess is 8-5, down party lines.

Senate version of the bill being heard as early as tomorrow... Will let you know when we do.

Speaking only for myself, my inclination is to:

Contact the members of the Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Committee, and urge them to support this bill.

Write your own Senator and Representative, and ask them to vote YES on HF1467/SF1357. Find who represents you here, add them to your email address book, and put them on speed dial: http://www.leg.state.mn.us/leg/districtfinder.asp

Contact the Governor

Mailing Address:

I'm going to include a link to the House Research Summary which is very well written:

Sorry I couldn't be there today, I am home sick.

Thanks to everyone who could make it.

I got a response from Ron Shimanski, sounds like he's pretty excited as well.

I was able to get a response from Kory Kath from 26A, and he is "inclined to support the bill as it is now". Does anyone know of planned changes to the bill or was it written differently in the past?

There are not any changes to it since it was authored. House Judiciary tried to get some changes today,. but all were denied. No amendments have been posted.

Tony did have a castle doctrine bill in the past, but this one is MUCH more comprehensive.

I'd love to show my support and send an email. I've always sat back in the past. Now I want to take action. My question though is, should I write a long descriptive email explaining why I want them to support the bill or just some brief blurb saying that I live in their district and I want them to vote for support of the bill?

No... It's just a tally. Don't spend too much time on it...

A point to remember, whenever a person takes a chairmanship or vice chairmanship, they are working for you no matter which district they come from. State chairs are like statewide office, so when you get the email saying "I will respond to my constituents first", rip em a new one and remind them that comments to them regarding their performance as a sitting Chair, is the concern of ALL Minnesotans, not just those in their voting district.

I am in Florida, or I would have been there today. (working trip, not vacation, although I did squeeze one round of golf in. )
