I Just called her office and got a recording. I left her a very direct message that I would not appreciate her being a block to this legislation. She is my Senator. I have e-mailed her several times over the years starting with the beginning of what ended up as the Minnesota Personal Protection Act. She has never responded to any of my e-mails previously. I made it clear I expect a response on this issue.

Our information turned out to be incorrect. Senator Ortman is not, and never was, holding up the bill.

Information moves quickly and sometimes erratically in the final days of the session. Given the importance of the bill and the limited time remaining in the session, we acted immediately on the credible information we had.

We sincerely regret any confusion our message may have caused.

Senator Ortman has been a strong supporter of the rights of gun owners for her entire political career. We are lucky to have her on our side, and we are relieved to find out that we we heard wrong.

Please email Senator Ortman -- especially if you did before -- and thank her for her continued support.

Yes...I just talked with Jamie her assistant. She said they'd received a million emails and phone calls, and that Julianne was and still is in full support of the bill.

That's good....because for the first time ever I was going to send an email to a politician. :)

I just got through talking with Jamie at Senator Ortmans' office. I apologized for my stern message earlier and told her to tell the Senator THANK YOU from me, for her support on this issue. :)

(I felt a little foolish, oh well  )

There are whispers out there that "there is no smoke without fire" and that minds were quickly changed after email and calls began pouring in. Perhaps we need to follow up and make sure all of our Senators understand we want this bill to become Law.

To bad it isn't 100%.

I type in my address and it tells me that I am in 23 and my senator is Kathy Sheran, but I am in 24 and my senator is Julie Rosen.

Here is link to a map that may help, it shows the district border using colors.

I know the feeling. I'm reminded though of Dick Unger's point that once the Democrats realize they're losing a bunch of independant votes over this issue they'll reconsider. Maybe that's so.

What does it take for me to make a couple calls and e-mails? It means I have to take the time to get informed. It means I have to take time to develop my points and arguments. It means I have to make those points politely, succinctly, and logically.

The good news is that the prep work and practice talking to your reps is good practice for gun evangelism elsewhere. You'll find yourself more confident in discussing the issues elsewhere when the subject comes up.

and Maybe, just Maybe, over time it will have an effect.

Heck, my Rep TOLD me she votes against handguns. But this time she said it in person when she returned my call. 2 years ago, I didn't even get a response.
