He's hurting our image? This from a left shooting pink unicorn for Christ's sake.

Maybe some of you could have Morgan over for tea and crumpets. You could smile and nod while he makes **** up and lies to the audience. Nugent is an entertaining advocate. Show me evidence of any damage he's done. Show me the folks who used to be on the fence, but after hearing from Ted, have become anti.

Although I'll admit he sometimes goes over the top and his unscripted delivery is a bit of a run away train. I don't see any other way to get the overall message out through the media than by putting someone out there that is entertaining. You don't give people enough credit for being able to get to the message. I would prefer it if he would dial it down, but then you don't get asked to do TV. You have guys like John Lott who is a much better an more organized spokesperson, but as a personality for prime time TV it won't work. Best thing that could happen is the NRA sits down with the Motor City Madman and slows his roll a bit and arms him with more facts and a coordinated, methodical approach to interviews. He can still be passionate, but tempered and informative at the same time.

I'm glad there are some people that *get it* here.

If we're ever going to make any progress with 2A advocacy, it has to be done intelligently. Using evidence and logic to argue against gun control is the ONLY thing that's going to work. Name calling and "good ol boy" douchebaggery is only going to reinforce stereotypes of gun owners and push more of those "on the fence" or those who are pro-gun control but willing to listen over to the "other side".

There's a lot of people who simply don't grow up with guns around and sort of naturally fall into the control side by default, simply because they haven't had any positive exposure to firearms. If the only exposure these people get to gun owners/gun culture is "the nuge", there's no hope.

It has. Gun rights have expanded quite a bit. In fact, probably the single biggest factor in getting the scotus to recognize the 2A as an individual right is that the case was manufactured with a ton of time, money and thought behind it. If it was run by the Nuge, you think it would have had the same result?

I think you have nailed it:

The Nuge didn't get put on TV for any reason other than to be a spectacle. The media is not analyzing or scoring the debate,or even caring that their guy lost; they're looking at ratings. With a performance like that, everyone gets to see what they want to see: an advocate for guns, hunting and crime control, as a well as a raving maniac red neck.
Polishing his act a bit could only help.

(As far as his music- I don't recall recognizing anything he's done until after I heard him on the radio railing about the societally condoned, self-desctructive lifestyles of Hendrix and Joplin, as he was being vilified for hunting, target shooting, and carrying between concerts.)
