Steel Shoots?

Postby brent375hh on Thu Jun 02, 2011 10:03 am

Can anyone come to these?

If so, would a 1911 with a PF of 145 be a suitable choice?
Carry holster or my old Ernie Hill speed holster?

Any .22 events from the rail?

Thanks for any info!

Brent,
I hate to do this, since most of the time I think this answer is wholly inappropriate, but in this case it would be to your benefit to search for threads on the steel shoot. I only say that because there have been many newbys over the years who have been interested (including myself--I think I have a thread in from some years ago when I first got interested), and the amount of information already established in those old threads is absolutely terrific--you will never get as much information in this one thread than you will find in those older threads. If there is actually something you still wonder about after reading those threads (I doubt that would be the case!) you can always still ask!
I do not believe in the collective wisdom of individual ignorance.

As has been said, this gets covered regularly. You should somehow know this ;)

Only people who know about them, and you're one those people now.

That would actually be one of the best setups possible.

brent375hh wrote:Carry holster or my old Ernie Hill speed holster?
Either one, just depends on how much you want that extra half a second versus the practice with your carry holster.

Nope.

Thank you for the helpful information.

however...we will laugh at you with your 145 power factor in a .45. Especially when the steel fails to fall... ;)

So I take it that a 9 is not competitive in this venue. I am open to suggestions on what to load/bring.

9MM and up all works fine. Some people shoot their carry guns some shoot tricked out comp guns, you see it all.

I shoot a 9 and I have been near the bottom of the group both times I shot. Oh wait it's not the gun it's me. 8-)

Maybe Pat can make a graph of what caliber everyone shoots?

Nope, a nilla milla is just fine. Just don't bring one with 95 power factor loads. ;)

It's a great time had by all, make sure you give it a try. Don't get to hung up on the equipment, just bring a safe gun, a safe holster, a safe demeanor, and a fun attitude! :D

I've thought it might be fun to collect that kind of data at signup, but it'd have to be organized independently so as to not make extra work for China, unless I can blame it on somebody else.

I believe I did do Glock vs. 1911 one time.

The targets are supposed to be calibrated to fall to a 9mm; Selurcspi always tests the big ones. It's nice to have a little margin though, for when the target's been tilted a little on the bumpy muddy ground or something. I've gotten by with some pretty light .38 Specials. Last month I shot a moderate .357 load that might have been about a 145 PF and it worked fine.
