My sentiments as well.
Many, quite justifiably had issues with Joel, but he is no longer a problem to them.
My condolences to his family and friends.

I took the 9-1-1 call when this happened, and thought that it might have been him. I just found out now that it was (I don't frequent watching or reading the news because I usually know about the news WELL before the newsies do). Sorry to hear of this, as we lost a staunch ally in the whole 2A issue. Rest in peace, Joel. I did not know you well, but to the extent I did, I am thankful. Thoughts and prayers to his family and others left behind.

You really shouldn't be posting on a public forum that you took the 911 call. Information regarding people's EMS runs/hospital stay learned at work needs to stay there.

Then again, you already know that.
It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.

All I said was I took the call. That information can be gleaned by a simple call to the MECC as to the formal process to gather the information. I said nothing more, aside from expressing my condolences. The call content certainly is confidential and I will not disclose that. My information as a public employee is available upon request, within the applicable laws, etc.

If I heard the EMS dispatch on my scanner, should I keep quiet about that?

I didn't, but just asking.

Police blotters are full of public information. One might be surprised...

It would be completely up to you. I have different criteria as a civil servant. The content of a call is confidential, and anything said about it will be disseminated to the public via the public information officer for the department. No information is disclosed about the call by my saying I answered it.

Granted I don't know Joel well, but we had met a few times, so I would surely say he was an acquaintance. I have the "All you need to know" book he wrote. Read it of course as well. Should probably do so again because there is so much good stuff in there. It's just odd answering a call regarding someone you know.

As for 9-1-1, at least for Minneapolis, if you so choose, you can ask the operator for their name or "badge" (ID) number and we are obligated to state it per policy. Not sure if that is statutory or not, but I know it is MECC's policy.

FYI - MECC = Minneapolis Emergency Communications Center, in case you were not aware.

And, since you are unable to say a damn thing about that call, you shouldn't have mentioned it on a public forum.

But, you already knew that.

Simple question: since you yourself stated you would not disclose the content of the call, what the hell was the purpose of stating that you took the call on a public forum?????

Touche - I see your point. It essentially is invaluable information. Should the powers that be choose to remove it in light of that, c'est la vie.

I thought it was interesting that "one of our own" was that close to the event. </not interested in the details>

I was being facetious. I don't think that disclosing the fact that you took the call is a HIPAA violation.

Touche - my extended absence has essentially rendered me handicapped to the extent of correctly reading subliminal meanings in responses. Some are obvious enough that I do catch them. Others, well, not so much.
