Please re-read justaguy's last post.

Twice.

Pay close attention to the second and third paragraph, although the first one is relevant as well.
If you're reading this, there are better than even odds you are a d-bag.

#1 We haven't received a definitive court precedent against us. So we haven't technically lost... yet.
#2 We now know the government's plan of prosecution.

#3 Don't bring a knife when setting up the next test case.

Knife was not a factor... And Joel was not prepared to, and did not intend on being a test case.

Judge upheld that there was probable cause that the Court order applies to City Hall... Without a defendant, there is no one to challenge that it doesn't now. So right now, it looks like County Courts can call anything they want a court facility, and ban guns.

If not for the passing of a man that was instramental to getting carry passed in this state, then for his family, let this fued end. Let his family have some time and peace to morn.

Please forgive him his wrongs (perceived or otherwise) as you would want others to forgive yours.

Grayskies, the following is not "perceived", it is fact.

There was a time about 3-4 years ago when I (and many others) had great respect for Joel. He was nice to me at first too and I'm sure many, many people are grateful for Joel's efforts in helping to pass the carry law.

2+ years ago he banned me from his forum for sticking up for my instructor, Joe Penaz. After banning me, he sent numerous unwanted emails harassing me and he even made fun of my occupation on one of his parody sites (I am a piano tuner/technician). Then, I didn't hear much from Joel for about 18 months until March 23, 2011 when about a dozen of us, most of which are members of MNGunTalk, received the following email:

Dear :

I'm shortly going to be serving you with a claim for slander, libel, and/or trade libel, and will attempt to engage in and complete discovery, depose you, and recover my damages from you without going to court, other than to have the judge "sign off" on a settlement agreement.

Naturally, settling out of court will require your cooperation. Please seek advice from your own legal counsel, but I have been credibly advised that settling my claim against you privately is likely to save both of us some money.

If you have representation in this matter, please have your attorney contact me within two (2) business days to arrange for discovery and your deposition; if not, please advise me of the physical location where you would prefer to be served, and I'll try to accommodate you. It's the same cost to me whether the deputies serve you in your home or at work, but I'd prefer not to have the deputies serving you with my claim embarrass you in front of your friends, family and/or coworkers, if any. That said, it's up to you; if you don't state a preference, I'll simply tell the deputies as much as I know and can find out about where you live, work, and otherwise hang out, so that they can promptly complete their duty to serve you.

Naturally, I'm open to settlement discussions; you or your representative may contact me, at the phone number below, between the hours of 9AM and 11AM on any weekday. Other times may be available by prior arrangement.

Just to be clear: I do respect your First Amendment rights, as I do those of all people. But the First Amendment does not permit you to engage in slander, libel, and/or trade libel without consequence. To put it colloquially: you have danced the dance, and it is now time to pay the piper.

My apologies if you receive this email at multiple addresses; I have several addresses for several of you, and don't know which ones, if any, are active at this time.

Very truly yours,

Joel Rosenberg

5 days later a deputy sheriff delivered a "Notice Of Claim" letter from Joel. In this letter Joel demanded immediate payment of many 1000's of dollars. He probably spent $400-$500 having deputies deliver these letters. I know some of you find it hard to believe Joel was capable of this, but he was indeed. I'm willing to forgive him, but not grieve for him. I do, however, wish the best for his wife and daughters.

I was also lucky enough to receive the letter of claim. The guy had a beef with me although I'd never met him. He's gone--it's done. I have said a prayer for him and his family. I was the first or 2nd one to be ban from his forum. I think it was 2006.We fought about what to teach and open carry or not. For the next 5 years, Joel would come in to the shop to help support me and we had the same talk. At the end of the day I was right and Joel was wrong. Joel would think the same thing, that he was right I was wrong. But I always thought we were friends, no matter how wrong Joel was.:) I hope the best for his family. The only thing that P me off was that I didn't have the chance to tell him I was right again. Joel may have had some problems in the last 3 years do to his health, I can look pass that and call him a good friend.

Forgive me for asking this, but people keep referring to "health problems". Are we talking documented mental health problems? I thought the health problems were heart and diabetes related, and for sure the self imposed stress, with the addition of smoking probably not helping?

EDITED TO ADD: Just wondering what the correlation is between known health issues and ALLEGED stalking, harassing, breaking a court order, the web sites, the blogs, the emails, the suing, verbal abuse, videos, and miss appropriation of funds. I may have missed something, but you get the idea.

I see that the web pages "Family Matters II" are still active, as well as the parody sites.

I hope that those in the deceased's circle of friends do not consider it an epitaph. It appears to me, and I may be wrong of course  , that it is nothing more than a bitter person's attempt to blame all of his problems on those that had nothing to do with them.

I remember clearly being asked about seven months ago something about one of the people being lampooned in those web pages. I was very reluctant and told "the person" so. He assured me, in a most convincing way, that he just was curious and that he would never divulge the information. I gave him half of the information. As soon as I did so he told me that he would use it when and where he wanted, and would quote me as the source, despite his assurances to the contrary.

That, in and of itself, told me everything I ever needed to know about the person and his character.

My mother told me to never speak ill of the dead. I have never considered truth to be an ill.
