I certainly disagree with your characterization of “profiling.” Clearly the bulletin is informational and does not remotely suggest a suppression of Constitutional rights.

The department spokesperson who wrote the above is not doing his argument any favors. What the department is doing is profiling based on a voluntary behavior, which is not in and of itself a bad thing. However, to equate "profiling" with "suppression of Constitutional rights" is ridiculous.

The problem is the conclusion drawn based on the profile - that a person with a gun, who is not of a privileged class (i.e. Law Enforcement) must always be feared. This ignores the fact that those who legally carry firearms are, as a class, very near the bottom of any list of groups likely to commit a crime involving a gun...

I think every driver with a permit should be required to put that sticker on their car.

I want to go home tonight at the end of my shift.

Why? I presume it would be so that you can be extra cautious with all the drivers in vehicles without one, right?

I think people who have illegal firearms on them should put a sticker on their car too. Think of how much easier it would be for the police!

Hmm...what did I learn in class this weekend? The permit holder is roughly 20-50 times less likely to commit an assault, rape, or domestic violence? You'd think instead of issuing a warning, the police would issue a notice that they are probably not going to get gunned down when approaching a car with that sticker.

With a permit?

I thought permit holders were the "good guys?"

So, wouldn't that sticker tell you who the good guys are?

When you see a badge, you might be about to encounter a nice community-oriented servant, it might also be an early warning indicator that you MAY be about to have your civil rights violated under the guise of keeping everyone "safe".

Not really funny at all how the tone of Mr. Green's response is of a completely different color than the bulletin distributed to officers. Nice try.

Should I make the above picture bigger? I fear it was overlooked.
