Part-time jobs for kids?

Postby DeanC on Wed Jun 08, 2011 10:18 am

My kids are having a hell of a time finding work this summer. They've been looking since early Spring. Any leads?

They are even willing to do something as mundane as washing dishes, but are really reluctant to do take a gig at a fast food counter. Northwest metro is preferred.

Set them up as poop scoopers. Shovels, gloves, bags and bucket.

$10 per dog per week.

They'll be up to their ears in it.
-Get a rope Tuco.

You don't get it, *I* don't want to pay them. I want somebody else to.

Thee are very few jobs out there right now. My son was promised a job at the same place he has worked for two summers only to have them kill the intern program in mid may as a cost cutting measure. Of the eight guys he lived with, two have jobs, and one of those is because his dad owns the company.

I know. One of my friends owns a marina and restaurant. He has a stack of applications several inches thick from people with graduate degrees who are willing to wash dishes.

Oh, they want to get paid? Isn't valuable experience payment enough? You're raising some entitled kids there, Deaner.

Sometimes you just have to neatly fold your pride, tuck it up in your paper McDonald's hat, and supesize your way to a paycheck. Times are tough for everyone right now. Even the "less desirable" jobs are being filled by overqualified folks.

You could also try some of the hoidy toidy golf courses. They usually employ a whole gaggle of caddies.
If you're reading this, there are better than even odds you are a d-bag.

They are getting closer to this. Won't be long now. One them is 16 and hasn't taken driver's ed yet because I won't pay for it.

They tried this. It's pretty tough to crack into. You have to show up very early and hope the head caddy likes you enough to bump you to the front of the line to get a loop. No guarantees and a lot of sitting around hoping. One loop might be enough to pay for the gas to and from the course.

I think they had a guy sweeping garbage or cleaning bathrooms at the Fair last year. He had had a 6 figure salary. White Castle has good benefits.

Along those same lines, call whatever town you live in. Sometimes they have summer jobs programs for kids like working in the parks, beaches, picking up litter, etc.
