It's all matching, and the metal is 100 percent. All of it. Inside the chamber, inside the magazine, the follower, the interrupter, the trigger guard, the butt plate, you name it. It would have to be a pretty damn good refurb, and from having worked in an industry that refurbed wood and metal items for many years, Ive gotten pretty good at spotting them. Also, from what I hear unissued 91/30 aren't terribly uncommon....... It's just that I haven't seen one. Most of the ones I see have been ridden pretty hard.
Besides...... It's a Nagant. Nobody would go throught the trouble of making it appear factory new again. That would be like a ground up restoration on a factory stock Ford Pinto.

Go figure.

Not saying it wasn't possible, just not very understandable.

Depends on the exact model. A Finn cavalry carbine goes for several thousand bucks.

And apparently, to this day, neither have I.

Well, all of the above may be mostly true, but forcefed came over this evening for a beer and a history lesson. Seems that even though I am somewhat of an expert in spotting restoration jobs on stringed instruments and Pianos, I have a lot to learn in the tricks of the trade with old military firearms. He was kind enough to point out the tell tale signs of what they did to refurbish the rifle, (like force matching the bolt and the like) and he didn't even snicker or call me an idiot once! Thanks for the lesson forcefed, I appreciate you taking the time to educate me a bit.

Be all that as it may, I stand by the statement that this is still the nicest 91/30 I have ever seen, refurb or not and I'm thrilled to have it in the safe. Can't wait to get it to the range again! :D

Not bad for what will always be a $50 rifle.

Ok everyone..... stop the parade......

I think its raining....... :|

You are correct. It will more than likely forever be a $50 rifle to you. To me it will always be a thoughtful gift from a good friend.

and that's what matters.

I spent 4 years buying Nagants for $30 to $50. Stupid ex had me sell em all. Hence the "$50" rifle.

The gift gives it a value only you can decide what it's worth.

Besides.....

Just wait until SHTF and the special AR lube runs out and the AK mags get lost. :P

I know. I had stocked up on them for "throw away" guns and to arm a small private army. Now the ammo has quadrupled in price and the rifles are 4-5 times as much or more.
