Hello From Faribault

Postby smokintone on Tue Jun 14, 2011 9:11 am

Hey fellas. Always happy to talk guns with people. I love to hunt, shoot, and shoot some more. I am a recent NRA certified instructor, and I was hoping to get into IDPA at the Faribault RPC. COuld really use some info on getting started out there. Do you need to be a member to shoot? Does a person just show up and get registered?

Thanks,
Tony.

Yeah, just show up at FRPC, 5ish any Wednesday. If you have a gun, holster, and three mags/speedloaders, and a couple boxes of ammo, bring that. It's fun fun fun. I'm bummin' because I've been too broke to go myself, first time in 10 years I've missed it. Leo Dwyer is the boss man down there, don't let him scare you off, he's a great guy, he's just very... direct. :)

Thanks fellas! Well i'm glad to hear it's "show up and shoot" I've also been meaning to join up as well. I've actually got a Comptac Competition kit on it's way for my New to me, but lightly used M&P 9mm 5" pro. I did get a chance to shoot some long range rifle out there, and a little pistol.

FR&PC shoots IDPA on Wednesday nights. Match starts about 5:30 PM. Be there by 5:00 PM to sign-up.

FR&PC shoots USPSA/ IPSC on Tuesday nights.

You do not need to be a FR&PC member to shoot the matches.

Read and understand the IDPA rules concerning safe gun handling. Several times! (Go to IDPA site to get the rulebook.) Breaking these rules is what will get you into trouble (asked to leave).

Watching a match is free. Bring hearing and eye protection. Come and see if IDPA is what you are looking for. Let them know you are interested in starting to shoot the IDPA / USPSA.

Not knowing your shooting experience, it is difficult to know if you have the skills needed to shoot the matches safely. You will be drawing from a holster, moving and shooting all while under the pressure of the timer. We all started at some time.
Because I care, I carry.

Oh and if you do shoot, the match fee for IDPA is ten bucks (or at least it was last year).

I have taken a couple pistol classes, as well as shot at the Glock GSSF shoot up in the cities, and just got my NRA cerification for Basic Pistol Instructor! I actually plan on starting some pistol instruction for Permit holders. I've seen a lot of guys with there permits shoot, and it's pretty evident they really need to get out and shoot more often.More than once I've heard things like. I haven't shot since last year........No KIdding! Those are the guys I would like to help!
