How fast are you

Postby westberg on Thu Jun 16, 2011 4:35 pm

In another thread http://www.mnguntalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=22268 a member claimed at one time being able to have splits between shots of .06 to .11. Needless to say I was impressed , that is very fast, so I wanted to see how fast that really is and how accomplished he was at that time to be doing .06 splits.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XM214_Microgun
A Microgun and using the lower number of 4000 per minute would be split times of .01

The Beretta 92F claimed rounds per minute is 1100 would be splits of .05

I found that the top USPSA Competitors have split times of .11 to .13

Today my son Mike and I went to the range to do some practice and I thought here is a good chance to see what we can do. This is the first live fire practice we have done this year.

Last Saturday at a IDPA match we did this FAST Drill http://pistol-training.com/drills/fast- ... speed-test
I did it in 6.46 and JoeH did it in 6.17
Today Mike did it with his CZ in 4.03 and 4.04

Ranking
10+ seconds: Novice
less than 10 seconds: Intermediate
less than 7 seconds: Advanced
less than 5 seconds: Expert

We started our practice with a draw from the holster and one shot on a small popper at 10yds or 30ft. We only counted hits, I averaged 1.50 sec and Mike averaged 1.15 sec with his fastest at .88.

We also did some bill drills at 10 yards
My splits were right around .30
Mikes splits were .23

Mike also just tried dumping 6 rounds into the berm no draw or aiming just working the trigger, he got down to about .20 fastest split. He tried my Infinity and his XD and CZ, no real difference in time.

It looks like we have our work cut out for us to be competitive around here.

I would like to hear from others that actually know their times. The steel shoot this weekend would be a good place to get your splits if it doesn't slow the match down.

Last year at Oakdale, on the close targets I was getting splits of about .12 - .13 with a S&W 625. Mind you this was just "pull the triger as quick as you can" doubletaps on in yer face targets.

Distant targets...... not so quick.

I hope you mean the Beretta 93R.....

When I was in the top of my game, .11 -13 was typical.

On occassion, I could get under .1 and I have seen a .06 split.

Here is the target that I use in class when/if I teach a pistol class.

Hits in the coke bottle/white are 5 points, grey 2 points, 0 on the paper.

Splits are always available if you are running a timer at the steel shoots. It's just whether or not you read them or not.

That's pretty good, but you have a ways to go to be top dog around here. :P

The splits I qouted were on a paper target with all "A" hits at 10 yds. I didn't want to factor in any of the fast draws or splits that ended up as misses.

I'm not suggesting it's me you have to beat to be top dog so I will leave Dawn's revolver alone.

I can pull 0.16-0.18 doing a bill drill at 7 yards. Controlled pairs I am rarely sub 0.2. I am kind of surprised Mike W isn't faster than 0.23, but maybe that's 10yrds vs. 7yds?

I THINK I remember witnessing a .09 split at a match. It was a SCAPSA match prior to SS nats last year. The guy's shots were so damn fast I toggled through the timer to see what they were.

The guy I am referring to is team unholstered and his last name starts with Z, so Ron, ask him what his fastest splits have ever been. He'll know.

I have read that a 1911 cycles in 0.05 seconds...but I imagine there could be variation depending on spring rate etc.

Legend has it Jerry Miculek can shoot a revo 8 times in 1 second. That's seven splits and would be about a 0.14 second split. MNGuntalkers are fast!

:? Whaaa? Semi dumping round into berm is 60% slower than a revolver at targets? Not to mention who was behind the wheels... ;)
