Oh, I scratched the first one, Not badly through. Just make sure you've got a good layer of electrical tape anywhere there would otherwise be metal to metal contact.

That receiver has such a high round count now, however, that it's starting to get dinged up all over, and so I no longer feel bad about the scratch, it's just another character mark now.

I wouldn't have scratched it if I'd known to put the tape on the receiver instead of the vice grips.

Like I said, I've done sever since, with nary a mark.

If you like two stage triggers this can't be beat. http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/AR0120N ... 0120nm.htm

I went this route and am happy. Not exceptionally light, but crisp with VERY little creep and overtravel. http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Spike_s ... lpk301.htm

Your LPK will have a standard trigger in it. While it's not a JP or Giessle or some of the other match triggers, until you can outshoot the gun, save your pennies for another time. JMO.

Find a LPK, stock, if you have short arms, get an A1 stock, otherwise, get an A2. If you plan on shooting a lot in the winter with it, get an A1 stock.

Find a $50, 60 or 70 stripped lower and spend the extra on an upper, the more critical set-up is the bolt to barrel extension fit. That's where you can really make or break the rifle for accuracy. Next is the front sight post / gas block if you are going to use irons at all.

When you can outshoot the stock trigger, get a match trigger. You should have a lot better idea by then what you want.

Heck, get a spike's, Del-ton or any other inexpensive upper and that will give you the base for what you want in the future too as for an upper. Modular components at it's best and you get to shoot sooner with less money spent.

Ditch the Accuwedge. Sure, it makes the rifle not rattle any when you shake it, but it doesn't make the rifle more accurate, and is a big pain in the ass as far as disassembly and cleaning goes. I've also heard stories of them getting into your fire control group and causing malfunctions.

I don't know that the Nickel Boron Spikes LPK will give you a better trigger pull than a standard LPK and 10 minutes with a sheet of 1500 grit Wet or Dry, and it's twice the price of a Spikes LPK that isn't Nickel Boron coated. Also you may or may not like the Ergo Grip.

That's a pretty good deal on the upper, and if I were you I'd go with a better stock.

He says he get dealer price on DPMS stuff. Who knows, maybe dealer cost is less than 50 bucks.

Doubt it though.

I like the Burris PEPR mount for the AR, a 2-7x Leupold at Fleet Farm should do the trick. A Millet DMS-1 might also be worth a look, both should be in the $200 range and pair well with the PEPR.

IMHO - as an owner of 2 "franken" AR's I'd probably spend a few extra bucks to match the upper and lower brand. I realize this has NO bearing on function but if it comes time to resell it may be a matter of importance to a buyer particularly if you swap it at a gun shop vs private party.
