Thunder. You're missing the point. The point wasnt the $21. It was the ATTITUDE invoked.

I've had similar experiences and I have had good experiences. Since the ownership change I have met one salesclerk who had a clue. He was a kid who was a trap shooter who actually knew his stuff and was very patiently explaining to a father that while the youth 870 express was a good deal, the used but very clean 1100 20 youth for fifty bucks more was going to be much more comfortable for his skinny daughter to shoot. He also told me that ALL the pricing on used guns was coming from a single source who only saw a picture and a one sentence description. He said it was so bad that he was embarrassed and uncomfortable at the counter when people who didn't know any better were buying guns.

Recently I saw a S&W model 59 at the Blaine store labeled as a 9mm Luger and priced at $979.00. It was not listed as a 9mm S&W when I asked the gut behind the counter about it he just said it came into the store labeled that way. He had no motivation to correct it

I personally love Gander Mountain. This one time I had a piece of dog **** Taurus and I just could not bring myself to sell it to a sucker on the interweb, so I took it to Gander. It was great I gave them dog **** and they gave me cash, you dont get that everywhere.

I get the point, you missed mine. The offer was made after the attitude, so to me that makes it all OK if the offer would have been accepted, but it wasn't so here lies the difference.

He said himself if they had accepted the offer he would have started a 'there is an exception' thread...

Voting with your feet seems to work. I had a similar experience with a used Kimber at the Gander Mountain in EP. Gun was a recent addition to used case. I offered what I considered to be a fair value for the gun, and they declined on grounds it was newly in stock and would sell. The gun department manager was a bit off a dick, but I chalked that up to him being young and thinking this was the best job he's ever have ;) I checked back and it sold within the week.

This is the key. Frankly I'm the same way with guns that just got put on the shelf. I'd like all the regulars to have a crack at it before I start lowering prices.. at least 2-3 weeks in most cases. That said, there is a polite way to turn down an offer and a dickish way to go about it. A better response would have been "I tell you what, I can't give you 20 bucks off this gun today, but if I still have it after a month I'll give you 30 bucks off". Something like that. Or at least offered a backrub.

Why is it I never get offered backrubs at Bill's? Clearly I'm missing something....

I do, but it's always from some spikey haired blond guy that looks like he should be in the backstreet boys.

I politely decline.

I've never walked into a box store expecting to barter with the staff....lol, that's a new one on me.

sometimes the dummies at box stores work to your advantage. I bought a new Marlin XL7 .270 with a Leupold VXII 3-9x50 scope already mounted for $350 out the door. Obvious mistake, the scope itself was selling for $400 right across the store.

Supply and Demand baby!

Why does Gander KEEP doing the stupid stuff it's doing? Maybe because they still make money from people who pay those prices....Not so stupid now....Bills knows the deal as well, they just aren't D bags to the shoppers there... ;) (Usually....) And they have great service.

I never shop GM..... I only buy shotgun shells from Dicks... (cough and puke )

If you want some service go to Frontiersman, Gunstop, Wolf'sden, Bills or other small business.
This forum has had other complaints about GM in the past.....
Stop! If you shop there... you get what you deserve!

Go see Larry or Marv or Milan Hart or John Munson's people..... pay the extra $2.00 for the Gun or scope and shut the hell up!!! When the damn thing doesnt work because you aren't as clever as you think you are... Larry, Marv and the others will hold your hand and make it work!!!
They actually know the difference between 300 savage and 300 win mag..... they can tell you the difference between 9x19,9x18, 9x17 and 9x23.....

To the writer of this rant: Shame on you for giving GM any of your Dimes..... Support small Business

Not that I like Gander Mountain... but I'm guessing if you walked up to the counter and said "I WANT TO BUY THAT GUN! GET SOMEONE TO HELP ME!" you would be in/out of the store fairly quick.
