Will the state government shutdown delay the P2C process?

Postby SparkyJeff on Thu Jun 30, 2011 4:08 pm

Has anybody asked/addressed the issue of the state shutdown on the permit to carry application.
I submitted and paid my application fees Mon. June 13th. I wonder if/when I will receive my permit?

according to this StarTribune information page
http://www.startribune.com/politics/sta ... 52008.html

HEALTH/HUMAN SERVICES

Medical Assistance, MinnesotaCare, food stamps, welfare benefits, child support payments, county child protection services, refugee assistance, supplemental aid and some services for disabled people would continue. Child-care assistance, services for the deaf, Senior and Disability linkage lines, criminal background checks and food shelf distributions would stop.

...criminal background checks would stop?... sounds interesting.
PUBLIC SAFETY

State Patrol would stay on. The state's prison system would keep 3,600 of its 4,200 employees, including most of those who deal directly with offenders. Local police will likely be unaffected, since the state will still send local government aid.

Local police will likely be unaffected... So a person gets arrested during the shutdown, the police can't do a criminal background check??

I had a student send me an email saying he applied at Hennepin County last Tues. (6/28) and asked about it. They told him neither applying for nor processing one would be affected if there was a shutdown :)

That's good. My instructor had a class last Sunday. I would hope the people who took the class wouldn't have to wait longer than the 30 days to receive their permit...

That is good news, thank you.
The man there told me to start checking my mail in 3 weeks, and to call after 4 weeks if it hasn't shown up.

The criminal background checks are still up and running through the DPS. [...]
Looking at the DHS website, it appears that one of their closed services during the shutdown is, “…Information to law enforcement regarding the mental health and chemical health commitment history for applicants seeking handgun permits.”
private or small grou permit classes available

I hope the gov't stays shutdown & we throw away the key. People will see they don't need the gov't to survive. And see what a waste of money most of it is.

A bit off topic here (just a little), but did anyone read Katherine Kersten's column in Sunday's (7-3-11) Strib opinion page? She says this shutdown is all a ploy by Dayton and his Dem cronies to smear the GOP and win back seats in the 2012 election. Hmmm, makes sense to me as Dayton kept the GOP waiting all the way up to the end to take a look at their budget plan. Personally, I hope the shutdown goes for a month, then people will really see just how much of MN government is bloated and not really needed.

Mr. Blincow,

Thank you for inquiring about the "Permit to Carry" process during the state shutdown. Rest assured that Ramsey County has made contingency plans and does not anticipate any disruption in the issuance of permits in accordance with statutory timelines. Please continue to encourage your students to follow the permitting process established by the state legislature prior to carrying their firearm.

Thank you for the service you provide to our citizens. If I can be of any further assistance please don't hesitate to call me at 651-266-9311.
