You, sir, are an exception, and you have proved that consistently with your posts.

I suspect that you would agree that you are the exception, and that there are certainly not enough like you.

I have been close friends with many uniformed police over the past many decades. Now that we are all retired I see how they struggle to decompress.

It was just greenlit on FARK too, linking to a story on Jalopnik--which means another 10 million folks are now watching the video...

It has been carried on Fox News as well. That's at least another 137,000 or so viewers.

I wonder what would have happened if he would have pulled out his carry badge. :rotf:

Rural vs Metro.

I am more like Andy Griffith than Tackleberry.

But I CAN turn on John Cooper when I need to.

In other words, I can always rise up to the level of a-hole, if necessary. If a guy starts there, though, you can't go back to nice. It just doesn't play.

If they calm down and start respecting you, you should return the favor.

I'll never forget being in Chicago about eight years ago with my wife and another couple. We were at a Blues Festival of some sort in a park. After it ended, we wanted to go see some particular building (Sears Tower? I can't really recall). Anyhow, there were two cops near the park entrance. So, figuring they might be helpful, I walked toward them. When I was about ten feet or so away, I said as cheerfully as I could, "Hello!"

They both took a VERY rapid step back and each put his hand on his gun while glaring at me.

I didn't bother to ask them for directions anymore at that point.

Funny you should mention that. I asked a mounted Chicago Cop on Michigan Avenue for directions and the first thing he said to me was "get your hands out of your pockets!"

Considering guys like him are supposed to protect and serve guys like me, I'd sooner have the cop "off my side" than I would the PTC holder.

The cop isn't on your side. He's on his own.

Then why do we have cops?

You have an assistant who can't be trusted with a loaded gun?

I have been involved in traffic stops involving people with the proper credentials to carry and it was never an issue. Not one time did I ever have a less than professional incounter with the citizens I served undr these conditions. This officer is a complete disgrace to the uniform and needs to be discharged of his duties. There is no fix for behavior like this in this type of profession. He should have never been allowed to become an officer right from the start. I can understand a higher level of awareness and even some displayed stress by some less experienced officers, but this is so far of the charts that there is no logical excuse for it. I am very upset that he represented Law Enforcement and that this is where it needed to go to get adressed properly. Wow...very sad.
