When the power goes out, I look at my generator, look at my gas cans, think, "what if I am never able to purchase another drop of gas ever cause this is TEOTWAWKI?" Then I leave the gas and generator for when I NEED it and go back in and play a board game with the family by moonlight or candlelight.
Getting this back on the topic of ammo, if something bad happens (anything from local environmental disasters or government proposing we serialize and register all ammo all the way to invasion, revolution, or economic collapse) do you think you will find any ammo in the store and that if you do you will be able to afford it and get "enough"? Do you think ammo prices will go down much over time? Ammo keeps pretty well. What are the downsides to purchasing a lifetime supply right now? Sure you could have a fire, lose it all in a tragic boating accident, or have lost opportunity costs if the cost increases in ammo do not outpace what you would have done with the money had you not purchased the ammo in advance, but our firearms are worthless without ammo.
